The Bitcoin Whitepaper is now available for people in the UK to read freely once again. The default judgement obtained fraudulently by Craig Wright has been overturned. Thank you to everyone who helped. Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

Thanks for all the kind messages and tweets I've seen and received over the past 2 days. It's wonderful to see in action how Bitcoin is for anyone. For those of you calling for my head or telling me to stop being involved in Bitcoin, go fuck yourself.

@jamesob @LLFOURN Any code written in a language that isn't type safe will either have bugs or waste time of code reviewers. (Example: #r1356489861" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi…) I know that mypy exists, but it will never be complete and it seems strictly worse than just using a type-safe language to begin with.

I still think Rust is a bubble that's gonna pop when people realize that for 99% of projects, managing memory isn't necessary or desirable. Go could probably steal a bunch of Rust demand if it introduced the equivalent of the ? error handling mechanism and a basic macro system.

-ftrivial-auto-var-init=pattern in combination with Asan and UBsan may be a better sanitizer than Msan or valgrind, because it can even detect uninitialized memory reads before they are used to take a code branch.

@LukeDashjr @github The local ipv4 tests should still be run, as they don't need a publicly routed ipv4.

Docker supports ipv6 out of the box now. :) #issuecomment-1690115305" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/docker/hub-fee… A Bitcoin Core ipv6-only CI system is not far away. Only @github is still stuck on ipv4-only.

The LTS program has a longer time horizon than regular grants, geared towards long-term stability for grantees. The first recipient is @MarcoFalke, a long-term maintainer and contributor of Bitcoin Core with thousands of contributions over many years. 🫡 opensats.org/blog/announcin…

If you think OSS licenses matter and devs should be free to contribute w/o fear of multi-million-$ SLAPP lawsuits, this case matters. It says bitcoin on the tin, but it’s about all of OSS. And yes it’s really costing millions to defend the MIT license. bitcoindefense.org/our-work/

We've seen both recent LLVM and GCC versions heavily "optimize" standard constant-time tricks (e.g. creating bitmasks from booleans) into branches. We use valgrind tests to catch these cases, but I worry that other code bases are affected by recent compiler improvements as well.

libsecp256k1 0.3.2 resolves a potential timing sidechannel in ECDH that may occur with the recently released GCC 13 (and possibly future versions). Affected users are strongly encouraged to update. This was discovered using the lib's tests, which can detect certain sidechannels.

I have been the quality assurance and testing maintainer of Bitcoin Core for about 7 years now. In a challenging decision, I concluded to transition out of my role as maintainer. 🧵
