Alright...hi! I released a book :) Don't know how to "promote" it, though. So how about you just give it a read? Please? The first two chapters are basically free! Maybe you like them? Oh, and the book is a mystery btw and I dare you to solve it!😁amazon.com/dp/B0FD93NTZH

These results genuinely surprised me. Small sample, but still pretty surprised that 1st Person didn't just place high, it won!

@TAR_Kirk The writing in that game...the twists, the characters, the vibe, the supernatural aspects, absolute perfection. It sparked something in me. I wanted to try and create something just as emotionally impactful. Could talk about stories and writing in games for days lol

@Marek_Orz That’s a great way of framing it! I wish I had framed my post that way now, lol.

What video game influenced your book(s) the most? For me, while many games have shaped my storytelling over the years, Fable 2 had the biggest impact on Children of Strife: The Arsonist. Its dark humor and whimsical aesthetics really stuck with me.

@Marek_Orz Dude, that's a good job right there. It's a tough racket these days, so I'd call this a strong pull 👍

I doubt anybody will be interested, but eh, I'm gonna post it anyway. Here are the Lifetime "Sales" for my debut novel. At least half of those copies "sold" have been sold for 0$ and I would have to remove like 20 copies because they have been bought for or by friends and family.

@TAR_Kirk has a new calling as a book marketer if he wants it. 😀 All you have to do is write a good book, have Tyler review it and you make sales. Who knew it was that easy. 🤷‍♂️ I’m not complaining. ONE more to 500 sold!!!!

Hi, I'm looking for honest reviews for my book. Doesn't matter who you are, as long as you kinda like fast-paced thrillers/mystery books that challenge you to solve parts of it by yourself. If you are interested let me know, I can provide you with a digital copy.

Started writing (and not just planning) my 2nd book last night, and I realized that, man, I had the ending for the 2nd book in my notes for over 5 years. Everything else sprouted from that ending. So I'm basically writing backwards lol. But how do you do it? What's your process?

Well, this is not how I wanted to end the first season of reviews. Now first, full transparency, I like Tyler and I consider him a peer. I was excited when this book came up on our random picker. And I know there are many people on here who are friends with him, and the disclaimer at the beginning of the video is for you. If we cannot put personal feelings aside when it comes to reviews of art, then it's better to just leave the space alone. In this case, I did have to put my personal feelings aside, and treat this book like I would any other. If I came across this out in the wild, authored by Rando McRandoFace, this is the review this book would get. No punches pulled, no sugar-coating. This writing is fanfiction-levels of immature. Not to the point of being a silly and joyous romp of expression, but to the point of tedium, frustration, and sincere annoyance. A lot of writers nowadays are rushing their work. Part of it is because they need the outlet, they need the feedback, and I *get* that. Some days, I have got to just gush about my story. And I have many personal outlets where I can do that. I have people who are as excited for me to publish my work as I am, who can't wait to experience it. And I haven't always had that, so I get the frustrations. BUT. Don't sell that. Don't sell half-baked. Don't sell "passion project that I didn't have the time/money to edit properly". Don't sell, "book I wrote when I was a teen". On the other side, rushing happens because that's how everyone says you have to be as an indie author. You get into this content treadmill where if you're not publishing, your career is DEAD. I get that pressure too. But it's artificial. There's always another. Another moment. A new reader. A fresh start. Sometimes, the answer is to stop, pull back, work, build up the personal library, and kick off again later in a way that works better. Sometimes, we start too soon. That's fine; just walk it back! That's the beautiful thing about life is you can begin again on anything as many times as you wish. The biggest problem in the indie community today is the rush. The tizzy. Well, you can't make great art in a tizzy. You can't even make something enjoyable. And you know how I know (despite all protestations otherwise) that most indie authors don't even enjoy their own work? Because they're not reading it. You know how I know they're not reading it? Because of the glaring, SO obvious errors that a simple read-through would catch. These have been consistently showing up across all our reviews this season. Not things like "despicable" auto-corrected to "describable" or something like that. They're editing a sentence with a slash. / They're a chapter heading in normal font/size, when all the other ones have been BIG and bold. It's a sentence that goes to about here, and then starts a new paragraph in the middle, and no one caught it. They are *simple* mistakes. Easy-to-catch mistakes. Mistakes that show the true lack of love and passion for the work. Lots of people out there are talking the writer talk, but their work shows what they think of it; it's a product to them. That's all. And they haven't even tried to make it a product that's worth my while as a consumer. Anyway, that's my rant. Season 2 won't drop probably until the fall unfortunately, because, believe it or not, we're adults with jobs and projects of our own. I'm going to try to have Book 1 of Wicked World out late October, but I'm not gonna rush it (lol see what I did there). But there will be one more bit of season 1 next week, when I post a VERY drunken wrap-up discussion. And we'll tepidly present our ways of fixing the more egregious books of the season. So, you know, drunken dev editing lol For people submitting chapters and manuscripts, we will get feedback out before fall since those are more timely items. And after I post next week I won't really be around here much. I encourage you to do the same. Go outside, enjoy the summer. Live a good life. Don’t waste time feeding the machines and egomaniacal billionaires who fancy themselves gods.

To celebrate the release of the paperback version of my book, I made the Kindle version free for the next few days. Grab either version (although I hope you pick up a paperback lol), while I work on the 2nd book. Link to the book is in my bio :)

Without Life is Strange I probably would've never written my book. It was the game that flipped a switch in my head. I had to write something just as moving and impactful. That was the goal that kept me going in the early stages of my story.

Amazon MGM Studios has greenlit Life is Strange, based on the critically acclaimed best-selling video game, straight to series from creator/showrunner Charlie Covell. Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap set as producers.

My favorite part of the first super positive review my book got today: "This book is Inception meets Girl, Interrupted with a dash of Stranger Things filtered through a vintage Tumblr aesthetic. It’s slow at first, but once the unraveling starts, it’s deliciously disorienting."

A few people have told me to not get too hung up on reviews and to not check for them every day, but today I got the first super positive review from a person I don't know, and man, I gotta be honest, it's a nice little high.
