Eyes of the West Amazon The story is fiction. But the fight is real. It's hard to believe that such cruelty can happen, but it does. America's wild horses are in danger. Roundups by the BLM, Bureau of Land Management, need to stop. Over the years, thousands of horses are chased down by helicopter and jeeps in attempt to 'thin the herd for their own good', only the herd does not need to be thinned. And this coming summer, thousands more are slated to be removed. Ever since an important provision in the Free Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act was removed in 2004, thousands of horses were rounded up , or gathered, in barbaric fashion. Some were held in government holding pens, which provided inferior conditions, others were sent to auction. Kill buyers frequented those auctions, and that opened the door to the slaughter pipeline. I wrote this book to detail a cause that is dear to my heart. One reader told me that she had no idea this was happening. Sadly, there are many who don't know. I didn't. I know now, and hope that once you read my book, you'll see that cause is real.

Eyes of the West Available on Amazon Cowboys. Wild horses. A wild horse sanctuary/rescue center. Ever since federal protection for wild horses was abolished, one man made it his mission to save horses across the country from slaughter. It started slowly. A lone clap, a whisper of sound issued forth from the audience. An elderly man with white whiskers, a chiseled, weatherbeaten face, narrow jaw, and worn jeans, stood. Tears streamed from his eyes, his mustache twitching as he shouted something barely comprehensible. A smattering of applause broke out. One by one, people rose, hands held high. 'For the horses'. The chant broke out slowly, reaching a fevered crescendo that rolled across the vast audience. For the horses. For the horses. They existed for the horses. Cried for the horses and prayed for the horses. Fought for the horses. They also came together for the horses, a sea of humanity rising against a grievous injunction against mankind. A thunder of applause rolled forth, sweeping over them, broken by cries of support and shrill whistles.

Shades of Yesterday Available on Amazon Hope surged as he tallied the hard earned funds, a smile of satisfaction spread across his face. “Fifty-two dollars and eighty-five cents. Not nearly enough yet, but maybe by summer, I’ll have enough to leave. I can hold on, if the old man don’t kill me first.” Andy tucked the bills inside and slid the tin back in the hole, safeguarding his secret. No one ever came out to the shed. Fear of spiders kept his mother away, and his father was too drunk to stagger across the yard. But drunk or not, if he learned of the money, he would find a way. Or beat it out of him. Tongue sticking out the corner of his mouth, brows furrowed in deep concentration, Andy replaced the splintered piece of flooring and rolled the barrel back in place. He sat back on his heels, hypnotic, crystal eyes of blue surveying the gloomy room. A shovel and pitchfork hung on wooden pegs, and a broken pickax leaned against the wall. Remnants of an old still were stacked in the corner. Andy gave serious thought to firing it up. It shouldn’t be too hard to figure out, and the money would come in handy. Might just be the spark to ignite his father’s interest in him. Fire up the old still, brew, and run. The Meiers’ way. Rusted tools buried in an inch of dust were stored in an old dresser draped with cobwebs. One leg was broken off, the bottom two drawers were missing, the second drawer warped shut and the top drawer stuck. Like everything else in his life, the dresser was used up, broken down, missing intricate working pieces, and tossed aside to rot.

Montana Rescue Coming soon to Amazon Anna leaned on the roughhewn rail and studied the reddish brown horse. “Why did you want to stop here?” Graham looped his arm around her shoulders. “We have a lot of healing to do.” Anna’s breath hitched and she brushed the back of her hand over her eyes. “I don’t see where watching a horse and a dog can help.” “Kiddo, growing up I always found peace when in the presence of animals. Mom didn’t have her rescue then, but we always seemed to pick up a stray or two. And we always had a few dogs running around the place. Whenever I was upset, angry, or confused, I would seek their company.” Anna shrugged “Why?” “Ahh, it’s the why that’s magic,” Graham answered softly. If you love horses, drop in and meet Misty Rose. She will capture your heart.
