@AnaPau1972 I understand how proud you must have felt at the time. And the necklace has surely remained a quiet reminder of someone or something meaningful to her. 😌 #TubaBüyüküstün

With none of the trappings of a typical red carpet entrance, artist Tuba Büyüküstün arrives for the premier screening of “Sultana”. I love that she chose to wear her hummingbird necklace close to her heart. A necklace that personally has great meaning for her… “I found a hummingbird necklace there (Mexico) and bought it. One week, and this holiday that I keep, and keep so much in my heart for myself, I would not exchange that symbol or the meanings it evokes”. (TB) The hummingbird is most often seen as a messenger of luck, love, and joy… and on this very exciting evening I wish Tuba all of this and more 🤍❤️ #TubaBüyüküstün #Sultana #EnTu

The specific order in a book of short stories gives structure and added meaning. For example, the protagonists in the first and last stories in Engin’s new book “Isimsiz” (Arif and Biz) are both writers. Included in “Arif” is the Margaret Atwood quote, “Every story is told to cover up another story,” a reminder to approach the stories with curiosity… allowing unifying themes and undeniable truths to emerge. Known as the anchor, the final entry in a book of short stories is considered the most strategically important entry in the book. In his previous two collections Engin ends with “Bence de Sefa” (I Think It’s Sefa, Too) and “Benim Adım” (My name is...) Each features a cat who plays an important role in helping the protagonist(s) find and understand the true nature of love. In the context of his stories about love and relationships, Engin’s 31st short story “Biz” (We) published in March 2020 always stood out. He has included it here, appearing as the last story in his new book “Isimsiz”. It was worth waiting for. Memory, imagination and the passage of time influences the narrator’s written stories that include beautiful memories of an important relationship, as well as the pain of eventual separation. But for the protagonist, his real life will begin when he throws down his pen, tosses his stories in the trash and sets out to meet the mysterious woman who had reached out to him: "I read with interest your writings... I feel like I'm one of the women in your stories, l wish I had a chance to have coffee with you one day..." Thus, turning a story about "what is left when we lose a person" into hope for a new start. A reset of sorts. And so their story begins. Or continues…The real story. “On a rainy day we met at a cafe…” If we're lucky, we find a partner where the "I" becomes secondary to the "We”. But real love begins when you stop writing about it and start living it …even if you're running late. A fitting end to the rest of the stories. #EnginAkyürek #Isimsiz #Biz #EnTu

Tuba must be on her way to attend the 45th Istanbul Film Festival, where her new film “Sultana” is set to have its official premiere on April 18th. And there’s always the possibility she will participate in a Q & A session with the audience immediately after the film. There is so much to look forward to… Tuba uses the perfect song as she heads into this busy week. “Gelsin Hayat Bildiği Gibi” (Let Life Come as it May) by rapper singer Ceza featuring Sezen Aksu emphasizes the struggle and growth experienced throughout one's journey. Wishing Tuba a safe journey and a beautiful homecoming. Hoping “Sultana” is a resounding success… “Yolun açık olsun." (May your path be open.) #TubaBüyüküstün #Sultana

Romantic musings from Paris… Tuba reposts a romantic video that captures a couple along the banks of the River Seine. Dancing to “City of Stars” the song describes the uncertainty, dreams, longing, hope and joy between two people who through the “smokescreen of crowded restaurants” miraculously find each other. The quote Tuba posted can be seen as a personal roadmap to achieve strong, healthy relationships in our lives. At the same time always mindful of the importance of "looking after each other's hearts" (birbirinin kalbini gözetebilme). This is a similar sentiment expressed in the song… “A voice that says, I'll be here / And you'll be alright". Decidedly romantic for a Sunday afternoon… #TubaBüyüküstün #Entu

I hid you in my stories, in the sounds of the songs I listened to... Couldn’t be happier to hear Engin is about to publish a third volume of his short stories…always something to look forward to🤍 The interesting cover can be interpreted in so many ways. First the title “Isimsiz” (nameless or anonymous) and the cat’s name tag, Öykü (Story) both suggest Engin’s stories aim to turn personal narratives into something collective or universal. Which is why his work is always so highly praised. Then of course it’s hard to ignore Engin’s cats…looking at the cover I couldn’t help but think of the quote Tuba posted earlier today: “Friend, I am not as I appear. My appearance is something I carry upon me; it is nothing but a carefully woven garment that protects me from your curiosity and you from my neglect.” (Kahlil Gibran). The cat is literally wearing a "garment woven with care"—a formal suit and bowtie. (Similar representations seen before in the framed artwork on an Engin birthday post). In literature and art, dressing a cat as a human is an act of disguise and often symbolizes hidden truths “that protects a person from unwanted curiosity”. (Gibran) Engin’s first book cover (Sessizlik) interestingly morphed human features with the features of a cat…it was perhaps one of the first times Engin revealed his cats actually symbolize something or someone more important in his life. This was the moment that a nameless (isimsiz) person actually became the central character in his own story (öycü). Both the quote Tuba used and the images of the cats on Engin’s book covers reveal the ongoing conflict between the private and public realm. Will we ever know what Engin’s cats represent to him? Looking carefully at the cover, golden particles are seen flying through the air. It’s hard to tell if the cat is forming, taking on another shape or dissolving. In either case… as the music Tuba chose for her quote tells us “Gece Geçer" (The Night Will Pass)😌 #EnginAkyürek #TubaBüyüküstün #Isimsiz #EnTu
