Interestingly, the 2.3.4.4e HA only bound human-type receptors when the Q226L was introduced and also solely bound to human tracheal sections. Thus, the Q226L is quite context dependent!

First, we do not observe human-type receptor binding for the 2.3.4.4b HA. The isolate used predates the current outbreak in cattle but only differs by 6 amino acids (and lacks an MBCS) outside of the receptor binding domain, compared to the A/TX/324/24 strain.

We produced cheese, yogurt, and whey from H5N1-contaminated milk in the lab. Our findings demonstrate that homemade dairy products can be considered safe when prepared correctly. An important aspect of our study was the use of well-defined lectins, including IAV HA and IDV HEF. Influenza D virus HEF is specific for 9-O-acetylated Neu5Ac, whereas the PR8 used only binds a2,6-linked NeuAc. SNA is quite promiscuous. Do not rely solely on plant lectins.
