An interesting development to watch -"In coming months, Local Contexts and ORCID will be working to integrate the Local Contexts Hub with the ORCID registry, supporting the mutual linking of accounts for users of the two systems” info.orcid.org/local-contexts…

know a small yet great group of zoologists that had created and contributed to movie archives of animal behavior -- all of a sudden (20 yrs? later) this new addition of a rodent predator-prey video to the database has received a mainstream media coverage. momo-p.com/index-e.html

Campus museums should listen to students - "Naming the museum after a rich person while simultaneously removing opportunities for students leaves the impression that administration cares more about $$$ than they do about the students and faculty...” lbcurrent.com/opinions/2024/…

I had not been findable on researchmap ever since the infrastructure was launched in 2009 (was long gone overseas by then) so requested for a new account with a member ID yesterday and have started slowly adding my info from a scratch for my sanity’s sake researchmap.jp/mariko_kageyama

My deepest condolences to the family of the late Takashi Inoguchi PhD, Professor Emeritus U. Tokyo (d. 27 Nov 2024), who was one of the Travel Grantees and a long-term supporter of the College Women's Association of Japan (CWAJ), of which I'm a member. cwaj.org/scholarship/

@myrmoteras @NHCMjournal @rkellerp Moreover, specimen-based research literature associated with museum collections (vouchers) originally written in non-Western languages (including my native language Japanese) has hardly ever been discoverable to you, which is frustrating.

Learned so much from watching this film Bad River today -- immense value over lands and water being passed down from past to future generations --- but the ongoing courtroom battle, which is likely going up to the supreme court after 7th Cir, is worrisome badriverfilm.com

Spent a part of this weekend revisiting Roy Chapman Andrews’s Under A Lucky Star (1943) to check out his personal experience in Yokohama in his formative years (1909-1923); helping a retired historian in Yokohama because his grandmother is vividly depicted in this autobiography.

Donating to the UW libraries a reprint of 'Meiji-era Japanese #whaling history,’ a reference for Japanese commercial whaling that adopted the Norwegian harpoon technique -- I bought this book for my research on Roy Chapman Andrews from Matsuno Bookstore back in 2004

Market research in Japan to gauge the degree of people’s general interest and reason for visiting museums (of all types from fine arts to natural sciences) -- about a half of them said “used to visit but no longer” or “not interested nor visited at all" cross-m.co.jp/news/release/2…

Interesting-- was guessing the peak had already been hit years ago elsewhere -- "[in Hungary] faunistic research experienced a golden era between ca. 1990 and 2010. Since then, however, there has been a strong decline...to a level like that of the 1970s" doi.org/10.1007/s10531…

Initiative 2124 to be rejected - in retrospect it was a wise decision I’d made to buy a long term care insurance to opt out of the mandatory state payroll tax (WA Cares premium) during the one-time opt-out period in 2021 before the law went into effect. ballotpedia.org/Washington_Ini…

Adding a datapoint, my application for Global Entry was approved; took 50 days from the online application submission, 36 days from the interview at the Customs and Border Protection. I called the office recently to check the status, which might have helped move the case forward.

Adding a data point: Global Entry application submitted 17 Sept; conditionally approved 1 October (2 weeks). Was lucky to make an appointment the same day at SEA custom and border protection; the interview took 10 minutes including biometrics. ID will arrive hopefully in 2 weeks.
