know a small yet great group of zoologists that had created and contributed to movie archives of animal behavior -- all of a sudden (20 yrs? later) this new addition of a rodent predator-prey video to the database has received a mainstream media coverage.

Campus museums should listen to students - "Naming the museum after a rich person while simultaneously removing opportunities for students leaves the impression that administration cares more about $$$ than they do about the students and faculty...”

My deepest condolences to the family of the late Takashi Inoguchi PhD, Professor Emeritus U. Tokyo (d. 27 Nov 2024), who was one of the Travel Grantees and a long-term supporter of the College Women's Association of Japan (CWAJ), of which I'm a member.

How can you talk about the importance of natural history museums without once mentioning its libraries, the place where hundreds of years of research is accumulated? Only a specimen in context makes sense.

Learned so much from watching this film Bad River today -- immense value over lands and water being passed down from past to future generations --- but the ongoing courtroom battle, which is likely going up to the supreme court after 7th Cir, is worrisome

Donating to the UW libraries a reprint of 'Meiji-era Japanese #whaling history,’ a reference for Japanese commercial whaling that adopted the Norwegian harpoon technique -- I bought this book for my research on Roy Chapman Andrews from Matsuno Bookstore back in 2004

Market research in Japan to gauge the degree of people’s general interest and reason for visiting museums (of all types from fine arts to natural sciences) -- about a half of them said “used to visit but no longer” or “not interested nor visited at all"

Interesting-- was guessing the peak had already been hit years ago elsewhere -- "[in Hungary] faunistic research experienced a golden era between ca. 1990 and 2010. Since then, however, there has been a strong decline...to a level like that of the 1970s"

Initiative 2124 to be rejected - in retrospect it was a wise decision I’d made to buy a long term care insurance to opt out of the mandatory state payroll tax (WA Cares premium) during the one-time opt-out period in 2021 before the law went into effect.
