Not only did we just submit a big funding application on #bioluminescence, we did it while on a bioluminescence field trip with the fantastic Twardowski group! Working nights is a spectacular experience when both the water and sky around you sparkles ✨

Big thank you to our colleagues at the Department of Biology @NTNU who brainstormed names with us, including @TorkildBakken for making glassmark official! 😃

It's our 4 year anniversary! 🥳 We're celebrating by sharing that our favourite worm genus, Tomopteris, has been given a Norwegian name: #glassmark ('glass worm'). Suits them, right? 👓

Some pictures from my first fieldtrip collecting plankton from the Trondheim fjord 🌊 The worms don't like the sun as much as I do though, unfortunately. Even though we only found six Tomopteris planktonis and no Tomopteris helgolandica, I had a great time! 🌞

Our underwater friend, Tomopteris helgolandica, emits yellow light. This colour is so rare that it may be invisible to other animals. It might be their secret language of love... A language we're hoping to decode soon! 💛Happy Valentine's Day💛

Excited to showcase our bioluminescent worms at the @EED2024 Platynereis Satellite Meeting in June, in the session on polychaete diversity! 🙌

🌟Meet our very first PhD student @nadiavaneekelen!🌟 She has a BSc in Behaviour and Neuroscience, MSc in Marine Biology and will now combine these two fields to study the bioluminescence and neuroanatomy of annelids. Exciting times ahead! 🎉
