This is a nightmare. Wouldn’t be shocked if Castillo requests a trade with the clear lack of communication & disagreement with this game plan. Bryce was visibly frustrated about it all post game as well. How does this affect everyone else?

@Gravel_sense @DKramer_ Castillo constantly struggles when pushed past 4, and Millers velo today was down to ~95 in the 8th and 9th. Not sure why all fans are acting like this is malpractice against the pitchers.

@DKramer_ 6.41 ERA, 5.53 xERA, 1.55 WHIP. I couldn’t give two shits about his frustration if we’re able to deploy him in a way where he gives us quality innings. That’s a pathetic act.

Another look at Luis Castillo after learning that his night was done. Can’t recall ever seeing this kind of frustration in his nearly four years with the Mariners. "We knew that was part of the plan, and you've got to respect what his decision was."

@VerblAssassn @DKramer_ It worked basically to perfection. Castillo cannot get more than 4 basically ever. Millers velo started dropping heavily in the 8th/9th. It might be hurting feelings but it worked incredibly well both times

@DKramer_ The piggyback is messy but you don’t get to enter a game a quarter way into the season with an ERA north of 6 and get this mad when the team has 0 obligation to keep you in the starting rotation in the first place.

Dan Wilson can’t help himself. Falls right into the trap laid by the white sox as they bring in the LHP, Wilson pinch hits Raley for Refsnyder. How many times are we going to do this.

Hancock has been rough Feel like I’ve seen Julio make that play before, though. Idk what to make about how bad he’s been in CF to start the year.

Considering the two possibilities are he’s hurt or he’s not - what do the Mariners do in each situation

@TyDaneGonzalez He’s looked horrible. Also this is the best situation the Mariners have almost ever been in to handle it. Either he figures it out and settles in as a solid veteran starter again or two of Miller/Hancock/Anderson start instead. Not sure why everyone is freaking out

Track record is a thing. Let's not pretend this is the first rough stretch of Castillo's career, or that he hasn't been able to put together good seasons despite runs like this. I'm not avoiding criticizing Castillo or nitpicking Hancock in favor of Castillo. The reality is: the Mariners are likely not going to do anything about Castillo early on. We know they have Hancock under a microscope between now and when Miller is cleared to return, as Ryan Rowland-Smith mentioned on our show. So we're approaching it from that angle. We're tackling what the Mariners are actually assessing, not what you want six starts into the year.

@MarinerMuse His fastball is barely touching 95. He can’t land pitches most of the time. He’s missing bad either over the plate or a foot off it. It’s a rain game so whatever. But he’s absolutely not better than Kade or Emerson if hes throwing 93mph meatballs

Not sure about Castillo right now Obviously a lot going on in this start in particular, but the results this year are straight up bad, and you’re now a six-starter roster with a seventh coming soon. It’s getting late early

It’d be an easy way to work Bryce Miller back in when the time comes without having to mess with Emerson Hancock
