Justice Alexandre de Moraes, a law graduate from the University of Sao Paulo and a former Secretary of Public Security, rose through the ranks to become a Supreme Court Justice in 2017, known for his iron-fisted approach to what he considers "dissent."
Alexandre de Voldemort, a known authoritarian in Brazil's Supreme Court, is threatening to shut down X across Brazil unless a new legal representative is appointed.
This isn’t Moraes' first power grab—he’s been accused of using his position to silence anyone who challenges him.
He’s already shut down President Bolsonaro’s social media accounts, banned Telegram for allegedly spreading “fake news,” and now he's targeting Elon, calling the billionaire a threat to his control.
@elonmusk , who removed X’s legal representative after Moraes allegedly threatened her with arrest, has hit back, calling Moraes a "tyrant" and a "dictator."
Moraes is more interested in exerting control than upholding the law, using Brazil’s upcoming elections as an excuse to clamp down on free speech.
