Walk with me here a little. 🧵🧶 In typical international break fashion. Thought i would just explore a few things we have noticed this season and maybe perhaps where we might be heading next year. What players/profiles will thrive next season, system or structure etc.. Firstly this season… ▫️so much focus on OOP, physicality and man marking - this has brought about less availability of passes between the lines - focus on dead ball situations - allowing the elite pressing teams to maximise PPDA (passes per defensive action), hence the best pressing systems thriving in the “longevity” of the season. This is particularly evident in the promoted teams who came up with wanting to extend on these features. - this season has seen an increase in second half stoppage time goals that have altered result of the game more than ever. 16.4% to be exact compared to previous high back in 23-24 12.4%. The entire history of the PL has only had 6% of games decided on 90+ mins goals. Thats staggering! But… not so hard to understand. Tells me 2 things that one the games are being held at a stalemate for way longer due to the systematic way the games have gone explained above. And last but not least games are being decided this late also due to substitutions and low xG goals being scored outside the box. Looking at these elements i am not surprised that #Arsenal are the front line leaders this season.
