I wonder what would’ve happened if Shai took 200-300 more shots.. That’s 3.27 shots per game he missed out on. A max 9.83 points per game left on the table.. He would be averaging 36-39 PPG. This is why we look at FG% and 3PT%

If we assume SGA’s standard shot diet and efficiency (15.3 2PA @ 60.2% & 4.4 3PA @ 38.8%) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would have another 109 points from 2’s and 30 points from 3s and would be averaging more PPG than Luka with his FGA. (And that’s not even getting into the FT convo, which Luka has 76 more of)

Luka Doncic is at about a 57% eFG this season. If MVP is suddenly being decided by efficiency and 57% isn’t good enough then these past winners should return their MVPs: LeBron, Michael Jordan, Steph, Larry Bird, Kevin Durant, Kobe, Tim Duncan, Dirk, Hakeem, and Kareem In fact, the only MVP seasons above 57% eFG are Jokić (3), Giannis (2), Wilt (2), 2013 LeBron, 2016 Steph, 1993 Barkley, and 2006 Nash. Right at 57%: 1987 Magic, 2000 Shaq and 2023 Embiid.  And just for context, last year SGA was right under 57% basically the same range as Luka now, while Jokić was at 62.6% last season. Nobody had an issue with efficiency back then.
