Rubio says a "humanitarian organization that's already operating inside of Cuba" is prepared to distribute US "aid" Could be generosity... or could be part of a US regime change plan to sideline and displace the Cuban authorities by weaponizing civilian hunger and desperation
Department of State@StateDept

SECRETARY RUBIO: I have a letter in my pocket right now from humanitarian organizations already inside of Cuba prepared to do the distribution. We’re prepared to do more, but it must be distributed by groups not linked to the regime or GAESA, because they’ll just steal it.

An investigation by The New York Times, based on interviews with officials in Washington, Copenhagen and Greenland, has discovered: The United States is trying to modify a longstanding military arrangement to ensure American troops can stay in Greenland indefinitely, even if Greenland becomes independent. The notion is basically a forever clause, and Greenlanders do not like it. The United States has pushed the talks beyond military matters and wants effective veto power over any major investment deals in Greenland to box out competitors like Russia and China. Greenlanders and Danes strongly object to this. (Gift article) nytimes.com/2026/05/18/wor…

@OJoelsen The U.S. has incorporated unwilling populations before, but it’s hard to imagine adding territory to the nation in the 21st century when the people there are so hostile to the idea.

@newrepublic “The United States has not annexed a significant portion of foreign territory within living memory.” You don’t consider the Mariana Islands “significant”? They were annexed in 1986.

Trump suggested earlier this week that Venezuela should be annexed by the United States. He reportedly told Fox News that he was “seriously considering a move to make Venezuela the fifty-first state.” trib.al/lSNBe32

Of those, Gaza is now off the table. Retaking the Panama Canal Zone is dormant, but I expect the idea will resurface. Greenland was always Trump's top target, but even that's on the back burner now. Still, I predict we haven't heard the last about Trump trying to expand America.

So that's seven specific annexation targets: Greenland, Canada, Panama, Palestine (Gaza), Mexico, Venezuela, and Cuba. Of those, I suspect he was only ever (even a little) serious about three of them: Greenland, Panama, and Gaza.

Some of the 19th century presidents spoke in sweeping terms about taking over vast parts of the world. Jefferson, for example, imagined an "empire of liberty" across the Western Hemisphere. But Trump holds the presidential record for most specific named annexation targets ...
