Me and my beautiful Daughter in Corfu. This girl is truly incredible. She’s coped with her Brothers illness for almost as long as she can remember.
Although she lives with him, she’s barely seen her brother for 5 years, just a few words here and there. Coped with him being naked and unwashed for years.
No shared fun in the garden, park, school, holidays, birthdays or Christmas. And you know what, she’s never complained and just got on with life and keeps growing as a person year on year.
Her first 6 years she had her big bro to look up to and protect her, now she’s had 5 years fending for herself. Her bravery, resilience and strength are inspirational.
But guess what ! This week she went to the cinema with her Bro !!! Yes, he was washed, dressed and excited to go out with her. They shared an Uber, popcorn, tango ice blasts, a film, some video games and then an Uber home.
I can’t believe I’m writing this, day by day he’s coming back to us. This was her first shared experience with him since early 2020 and his first shared experience with ANYBODY in all that time.
He’s still not ready to return to his normal life as it was, but we are moving closer day by day. I truly believe that now which is a hope I haven’t had for 5.5 years.

Just got home from our annual @gemini_wealth charity golf day. We have been raising money for @PANSPANDASUK and @DementiaUK which are both charities so close to our hearts. It is genuinely one of the most life affirming days you could imagine. Many people putting in so much time and effort and giving so generously for such important causes. People who’ve never met my boy asking about him and how he is and what the updates are. Thank you to everyone who made today possible and contributed so generously. ❤️ Oh, and although some donations are still coming in, there’s a rumour we may have raised a record amount this year. So last week I mentioned I had an email address for my Son. This is the first means of direct contact I’ve been able to have for 5 years.
I sent him a brief email but didn’t get a reply. That’s ok though, I don’t think he’s able yet to allow himself to reply.
Every bone in my body wants to send him frequent long messages and lots of old photos of me, him and all of our family trips. However, I don’t think he would want that or like it.
Many of you have kindly suggested photos of nature and places I see. So, I’ve gone with that for now. I’m going to send him occasional photos from where I am and just to say “I love you, Dad”.
I know he still won’t reply but I’m happy that this is the right plan. I’m also secretly hoping that beautiful outdoor pictures might stir something in him to want to venture outside. He’s not left his Moms house for years.
Thank you all for your suggestions, it’s been a help. Here’s today’s photo from my lovely morning walk. Have a great weekend all, Sun is shining in England 🌞

Happy Sunday all, some better news to share. We had some small progress with my boy late last year, mainly him being able to ask for things for the first time in 5 years. This week alone we have had the following which are huge steps and all things he’s not been able to discuss since he fell ill with PANS PANDAS in 2020.
1. Asking for certain meals, ingredients and then saying how much he enjoyed the food.
2. Showing real interest and knowledge about a healthy diet and anti inflammatory foods to eat.
3. Asking if he could redo his current school year. He’s never been back to school or done any school work since Feb 2020.
4. Asking for academic study books, especially biochemistry !
5. Trading online in tiny amounts of Crypto.
6. Wanting to use his own room in the house. He’s lived there 3 years and never used his own room. He’s researched and ordered some furniture and an infra red lamp to use daily.
7. Talking about getting a floor bed. He’s not used a bed for years.
8. Talking about memories from family stuff when he was well.
And most exciting is that he’s talking daily about taking a trip. He wants to go alone which is scary , but he’s commenting that he thinks he can rejoin life again if we allow him to take a short break !!
He still hasn’t dressed or left the house for many years and I’ve not seen him now for nearly 5 years. However, he’s been unable to even discuss any of this for years and all of this in one week is incredible.
It’s his Birthday soon which is the hardest time of year for me , but this time I have more hope in my heart than ever.
This is the picture in my head of how he looks but I no longer know what he looks or sounds like - he lives with his Mom. I think I’m getting closer to seeing him again tho ! I love you mate and always proud of you ❤️
