Warning: Deep in nerd weeds tweet:
The changes scheduled for 2026 already have had a huge affect (effect?) on the fields, so lets dive in about what it might mean down the line.
The trickle down started in the first event of KFT season in the @BahamasKFTour The main reason the field had to be expanded was because more conditional PGA Tour members committed to playing KFT, knocking out guys from Q-school with guaranteed starts.
The conditional PGA Tour guys know they are likely to get less starts on Tour because guys will take less weeks off, so KFT is their best path forward. That led me to ask players about a scenario further in the season.
First lets start with the rules. If you are in a PGA Tour field prior to the commitment deadline (Friday at 5pm usually the prior week) you cannot play in that weeks KFT event. Even if you aren't planning to play that weeks PGA Tour event. In years past this wasn't really an issue.
However, this year more conditional Tour guys are going to commit to a full KFT season, so lets say halfway thru the year, Player A has played a few Tour events and haven't played well, and played some KFT events and played well.
In this example lets say the player A is like 25th in KFT points and 205th in FedEx. And its ISCO week, an opposite field PGA Tour event. Player A is def getting in the ISCO field, but outside of a great week, (because of the reduced oppo-field points) he still doesn't have a chance to move close to the top 100.
That week the KFT is in Colorado. Player A would benefit way more from playing decent or well there then playing the ISCO. But he can't play.
I asked conditional members what they would want and all three I spoke with said in that scenario they would want to play the KFT event.
I also have to assume (I'm not sure) that the Tour will wave this rule during the Fall/KFT finals events that are the same week. (this maybe in place already) If a conditional member is in the KFT finals and has a chance at one of the 20 PGA Tour cards, and is well down in the FedEx, he would much rather play KFT finals then Fall.
If you made it to the end of this tweet on a Sunday morning at 7am seek help.

Check out the new @truetempergolf ICON grip (one without the plastic) next to another grip.
You can see why the ICON has 30% more traction.
I'm not a gearhead but I know I love these grips. Took @BigEinBigD money with them last weekend

This pic rules.
Simpler times. Big Tone, @Maxhoma before he became “The Pro,” @z_blair wearing what appears to be a white belt, Jon Curran, Hermie, DBstraitvibin, Steamboat Jay looking 25 years younger, and it goes on and on. Crazy how careers evolve.

@wesleybryangolf @Golfbet @PGATOUR Obviously no Big Break fans, or I’d be there. Definitely outside top 10 tho

I don’t know who @Golfbet is, and I don’t know who at PGATOUR approved this article. Everyone involved should be ashamed….don’t think for a second you can put George at #7 and expect me to not go headhunting. The @PGATOUR media team is lost, with no chance to recover from this

@Eldricks_hoes @MarkSilvers3 That was my call (Butler) Rich Harvest all the way back. Sand Hills in the breeze, Sawgrass CC- which is never discussed in this. I’m sure I’m missing others. Shinnecock, Winged Foot can be miserable too.
