Categories of humans have been used since #Mesopotamia to decide who gets and who doesn't. It is useful. However politically created constructs specifically #ethnicity are often missused to benefit few. Thank you #DSxHE and @angelasaini for such a great event!

.@robert_a_scott likens genetics to natures randomised control trial. Stratifying populations by genetic variants. Elegant description #UKPGx2021

Interesting questions for #JonathanVanTam at #UKPGx2021. Opinions towards viral diagnostics has changed in the UK however ubiquity of testing for #COVID19 as we normalise is likely to reduce.

#TIL from the direct-to-consumer #genetic testing that when a relative makes their #genomic data openly available, they also share #data of their kin. Once a genetic database covers ~2% of the population, almost anyone could be matched to up to at least a third cousin level.

For many, the chance to start a family is taken too soon due to ovarian ageing - a study of 200000 women found a link between the CHEK2 gene and #menopause. The potential to educate young women on #genetic insights regarding fertility could address concerns at an earlier stage.

#foodforthought that your genome is completely unique to you, therefore the way in which we store #genomic data from #WGS will be at the forefront of our thoughts in the #precisionmedicine field.
Genomics England@GenomicsEngland

Q: Can the #WGS data be stored, revisited at later date at age appropriate time? @SuzannahJK: consent plays big role; #newborndialogue participants say it needs to be v clear if data is being kept for later. Also may be no need to store - re-sequence as genomics improves/advances
