Joburg Market Drives Transformation and Market Access in Bethal and Nkangala District On 30–31 March, the Johannesburg Market visited the Nkangala District in Mpumalanga to support farmers and SMMEs with market access information. Day 1 included a visit to Dladla Farming in Bethal a 360-hectare family owned farm producing both crops and livestock. The farm is led by 19-year-old Smangaliso Dladla, who works alongside his mother. While the farm is still growing and not yet thriving, their dedication and vision highlight the importance of supporting emerging farmers as part of the Market’s transformation agenda. On Day 2, in partnership with the Nkangala Economic Development Agency, the session brought together a range of stakeholders and focused on equipping farmers and SMMEs with a deeper understanding of the Joburg Market’s systems and opportunities. Stakeholders including BBBEE market agents, Standard Bank, and the Department of Agriculture shared valuable insights on trading, finance, and farmer support. Key presentations unpacked the Market’s core pillars, including consignment control, operational processes, quality assurance standards, and the overall market structure.
