As the daughter of Cuban immigrants who came to our country believing in the promise of the American Dream, I’ve been honored to run for Congress and share my vision for the future of Arizona. While these results are not what we hoped for, I’m proud of our campaign and grateful to all the volunteers, supporters, and every Arizonan who showed up, knocked doors, shared their concerns with me, and believed this country is worth fighting for. I called Amish Shah and offered my congratulations on his victory. I look forward to working with him and fighting tirelessly to flip this seat in November.

When I think about public service in Arizona, I think about leaders who dedicated their lives to serving others. Governor Janet Napolitano did exactly that, leading our state before serving our country as Secretary of Homeland Security. I’m deeply honored to have her support. I sat down for a deeply moving and urgent roundtable discussion on reproductive freedom. I was honored to be joined by Alexis McGill Johnson (President & CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund), Dr. Sharon Thompson (OB-GYN), Morgan Finkelstein (advocate), and Jodi Liggett (Arizona Center for Women's Advancement). We talked about what is truly at stake. While Arizonans made their voices loud and clear in 2024 to protect reproductive freedom at the ballot box, the fight is far from over. The threat of a federal abortion ban, attacks on IVF, and restrictions on basic contraception are still very real. Hearing Morgan share her brave story of having to leave Arizona and spend thousands of dollars just to receive life-saving reproductive healthcare in 2020 was a stark reminder of what happens when politicians insert themselves into private medical decisions. As Dr. Thompson so perfectly put it, our bodies do not conform to narrow political agendas. In congress, I will never back down when it comes to protecting our girls, our women, and our families. Arizona deserves a representative who trusts women to make decisions about their own bodies, period.

There’s something incredibly special about earning the trust of people who’ve known you through different chapters of your life. Seeing Carol and Brooke standing beside me, knocking on doors for this campaign, means more than I can put into words. Carol has known me for decades - while we raised our kids and through unspeakable tragedy. Brooke is trusting me to fight for her future - for an Arizona where young people can afford to build a life, buy a home, start a family, and stay in the communities they love.
