You can choose to believe otherwise, but the agents I talk to aren't using the staff as the reason they aren't sending their high-end elite players to UNH. It's the school's investment into the program. Better development opportunities might exist, but that's because those programs also have more development tools are their disposal. I think the renovations the school is going to be doing - especially the added development facilities - is a good start. It doesn't get them over the finish line, but it's a good start. It's not just coaches who develop players. It's the personnel, plus the tools they have at their disposal. S&C, nutritionists, etc. I'm not making this up - my opinion comes from conversations with a lot of people. And like I said, if you think you need a new coach, fine. Go get one. But whoever the new coach is will have the same roadblocks in front of him unless the school changes it's approach to hockey investment. That's the piece (along with a new coach) that happened everywhere else, including Maine. Granted, they have some Alfond money to play with, but the new coach, combined with the incredible investment they just put into their development facilities, is what helps win you recruiting battles. I'm not trying to protect anyone here (despite that narrative). I'm simply pointing out that a coaching change is not some magic pill that solves all of the problems. Providence under Leaman, Lowell under Bazin, and UMass under Carvel not only changed coaches, they fundamentally changed the way they supported their programs at the institutional level. That's what moves needles with agents and players. Unless UNH is going to do that, swapping out coaches is just spinning your tires in the same mud. You can disagree, and that's fine. But I feel strong about my opinion there.
