‘It is, I think, a radical act, to dream of pleasure in the throes of hell; to walk through the wreckage of industrial capitalism and imagine amusement parks again... to remember that festivity - like bread or freedom - can be a social good worth fighting for.’
Kate Aronoff@KateAronoff

Always read @sarahljaffe: “Free time is necessary, in other words, not just for hedonic release, but also to allow us to be fully human, to experience life in all its complexity. It is, I think, a radical act to dream of pleasure in the throes of hell” newstatesman.com/international/…

@zeyadkhan @SantoorOfficial I beg to differ. The premise of the ad is ki 'young dikho'. Matlab ageism. What is so special about looking young forever? And it also sorta / kinda tells us that only 'young' women can flirt. Bhaisahab, NO. The ad is problematic :P

I just realised Santoor ads have been really ahead of their time. I mean single mothers doing great things, indirectly and casually flirting with strangers, until being interrupted by their daughters, whom they adore. Sorry @SantoorOfficial. Keep the same ad script forever.

"Three of India’s 10 biggest political spenders on Facebook, and eight of the top 60 (see list below), are hard-to-trace pro-BJP proxies. Together, they’ve spent substantially more — more than $800,000 — in a year and a half than the BJP ($680,000) itself"

How Facebook is changing its rules to boost the BJP in India. This is when there is no 'net neutrality'. Must read - ozy.com/html/the-new-a…

“The idea that hustling can save you from calamity is an article of faith, not fact—and the Covid-19 pandemic is starting to shake the collective faith in individual striving.” Laurie Penny’s terrific essay. wired.com/story/question…

Never before in ten-yr long career has my Muslim identity come in way of reporting. A gp of men and women, armed with sticks, on Moujpur Chwk threatened me, "Aap Mohameden hain, phir humse mat kehna". This when cops outnumbered locals. Very tense situation here. #DelhiBurning
