With construction underway, many neighborhood streets are seeing more traffic than usual as drivers navigate detours and alternate routes. We’re asking everyone to please slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution when traveling through these areas. Please remember you’re driving through someone’s neighborhood. That means watching for kids, pedestrians, pets, and increased local activity. A few extra seconds can make a big difference in keeping everyone safe. Construction impacts all of us, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. Let’s continue to look out for one another and be respectful of our neighbors as we make our way through these busier streets. 🚧

Thank you to Marshall Sunrise Rotary for recently donating $10,000 to the City of Marshall for inclusive playground equipment to be placed later this year at Freedom Park. These funds were made possible from Sunrise Rotary local fundraising and from the District 5610 Rotary Grant Fund. The City of Marshall has been incorporating inclusive playground equipment in parks since 2021. Inclusive playground equipment is designed to allow children and adults of all abilities—physical, cognitive, and sensory—to play together in the same space. Currently, Justice Park, Legion Field and Independence Park have inclusive playground equipment. By placing small “inclusive pods” or pockets of accessible playground equipment in our parks ensures everyone has a nearby option with the ultimate goal of installing equipment in each of our parks. Pictured are representatives of the Marshall Sunrise Rotary Club with President Rick Bot handing over the funds to Park and Recreation Superintendent Preston Stensrud.

The City’s bike share program is back for another year and ready to hit the ground rolling. Stations are once again located at Quality Inn, Traveler's Lodge, AmericInn and the YMCA. The bikes are free to utilize, making it easier than ever to get out and ride. Whether you're commuting, exploring, or just enjoying some fresh air, it just takes a quick stop at one of the stations to get moving!

Today kicks off the start of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota! We will post information each morning this week about five different topics. Today's topic is Weather Alerts & Warnings: · Severe weather warnings are issued by the National Weather Service. · Know the terms and what they mean. · Personal weather alerts – Many cell phone apps and local media outlets and internet sites offer free local personal weather alerting services. · Wireless Emergency Alerts – Sent by authorities to all cell phones in specific area to warn of a dangerous situation or critical information. · Counties and cities in Minnesota own and operate all warning sirens in their jurisdictions. · Sirens are activated when dangerous/extreme weather is imminent. They are intended to be heard while outdoors to give notification to seek shelter and seek further information. · Sirens normally sound for about two to three minutes and then go silent. · There is no such thing as an "all-clear" siren. You can learn more at dps.mn.gov/divisions/hsem…

We would like to encourage all Marshall residents to sign up for the new RAVE Alert and Smart 911 system for emergency alerts within Lyon county. This replaces the CodeRed system previously used which has been discontinued recently. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is rolling out a new emergency notification system. This system will be used for weather alerts along with other emergency notifications that need to be sent out, such as winter parking, water main breaks, or shelter in places. These notifications can be sent through multiple different avenues: phone call, text message, or email. We are partnering with RAVE Alert and Smart 911 for our notification system. The are a few different options to sign-up. You can scan the QR code on the photo, the one with the t-rex, go to the website, smart911.com/smart911/ref/r…, or you can text LYON to 226787. At the log-in page, you will be able to add your phone, email, and address into the website for your profile. This will allow us to be able to help notify you when you. Your address will be used for when we need to notify you based on narrow location instead of all of Lyon County. RAVE Alert is taking place of CodeRED. CodeRED was compromised by a hack late last year and we are not longer able to send the necessary notifications through CodeRED. Our first public notification will take place on this Wednesday for the first Wednesday of the month testing. If you have any questions on how to sign-up, please contact Sergeant Adam Connor.

With the recent roller coaster ride of temperatures lately, we’ve heard from area residents asking why all the park restroom facilities aren’t open for the season. Several of these restroom facilities are not designed to be used year-round and we need to keep them winterized until temperatures consistently stay above freezing so we don’t risk pipes bursting and causing damage. As a reminder, we do have three restrooms that stay open year-round which include the new restroom by the main shelter and the one near Nuese Lane at Independence Park, as well as the restroom at Memorial Park. We aim to have all the restrooms open by April 15thas long as the weather cooperates. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
