This is bigger than one person. Too many families are living this reality quietly. 💙 Our hearts go out to Ricky’s family & friends, and to everyone affected by CTE. Please share — awareness matters

💔 The Ricky Hatton inquest highlights something we don’t talk about enough. 🧠 CTE can cause sudden suicidal thoughts — out of nowhere, with no clear trigger. From the outside, someone can seem fine. Inside, they may be struggling. 💙 Thinking of his family & all affected by CTE

Research shows risk may be linked to cumulative exposure — not just diagnosed concussions. Years of repetitive head impacts matter. We need to stop thinking in isolated incidents and start thinking in long-term exposure. #BrainInjury #CTE

Brain injury recovery isn’t about willpower. It’s neurological. Approaches people explore include: • Neurofeedback • HBOT • Sleep optimisation • Nutrition • Exercise • Peer support Many were never told recovery support exists.

Myth: You must lose consciousness. Fact: Most concussions don’t involve blackout. Myth: Symptoms resolve quickly. Fact: Brain changes can last months or longer. Myth: If you look fine, you are fine. Fact: Brain injury is often invisible. We need better education.

Construction has one of the highest suicide rates in the UK. We talk about stress. We don’t talk about head impacts. Brain injury affects mood, impulse control and risk-taking. This conversation is incomplete without it. #Braininjury #Construction

The link between repeated head injuries and what we now call CTE was first made in 1928. Pathologist Harrison Martland described "punch-drunk syndrome" in boxers, attributing their tremors, confusion, and cognitive decline to cumulative head trauma from fights. The term "chronic traumatic encephalopathy" (CTE) was introduced in 1949 by neurologist Macdonald Critchley, again for boxers. It was later identified in American football in 2005 by Bennet Omalu in NFL player Mike Webster's brain autopsy. Relevant to rugby safety discussions!
