It was a blast discussing my thoughts on the exciting field of bioinspired and biomediated geotechnics on the @DesignsafeR podcast! I love talking about how snakes, trees, worms, bacteria, and other organisms can inspire new civil engineering solutions and reduce risk 🌳🦠🏨🌉.

Very excited to share the special issue on Bio-Inspired Geotechnics that was just published in Acta Geotechnica! It has 24 papers of great quality covering 8 broad topics (see image). It was great working with @JulianTao25. Thanks to the editorial board for their help and trust!

We have held a successful IAS Symposium on #Computational #Geomechanics (#CG2024) last week at @hkust. Thank all 65 invited speakers for contributing to this intense, stimulating 4 full-day conference and for being an inspiration for young students and researchers.

Today we did some cyclic t-bar tests to characterize the strength of our clay centrifuge model. Next week we’ll be performing load tests on offshore anchors for floating structures!!

Very cool to see a full special issue on biogeotechnics! Interesting articles on🌳and 🐍 inspired foundations and anchors, MICP 🦠for🏖️ protection and liquefaction remediation, centrifuge testing, and transitioning from lab to field!

@c_abrer_a @AzemaEmilien @NEstradaMejia @SantiagoPolana Very interesting - looking forward to reading it! We found similar results on natural sands with varying polydispersivity. In our work, the peak friction angle was strongly dependent on GSD by way of dilatancy, but the critical state friction angle was largely independent.

I taught my last @ut_caee class as an #AssociateProfessor. It was a great experience teaching Earth Slopes & RetainingStructures as a flipped classroom. I loved having more in depth discussions and see the progression of quality of students’ inquiries during the semester. #HookEm
