If I follow you not only is it not an endorsement there is a 50% chance I resent you deeply. If I follow you it means you have made 1 (one) interesting post.

@_Wilsonpilled_ Describing your trans coworker as “my HSTS coworker” rather than “my trans coworker” doesn’t just suggest a familiarity with trans slang (which, given how high-profile these dumb discourses are, doesn’t suggest much) but hints at a particular array of brain worms/mindset

Went on a drink with a few coworkers and found out my HSTS coworker does sw on the side and frankly that makes me respect her so much more. She’s not trapped in this place like the rest of them

Matt Yglesis and Ezra Klein or whoever is communisms most hated guy of this week generally have been the people hammering that it isn't corporations, that very little housing is owned by corporations, that it's a product of regulations and perverse incentives, etc.

This thread is correct that major corporations are not behind the housing crisis but it's really funny how the poster is like "I hate liberals why do they think major corporations are behind the housing crisis" as if this is not actually a distinctly left-of-liberal take.
Konstantinia 🇺🇳☭@yaoifakecel

Ok but this doesn't happen. Barely any of the housing supply is owned by massive corporations. It's like. All the fault of small individual homeowners and landlords.

@nise_yoshimi Give Britain a shot. What happens if she loses her empire in 1919? What happens to the “British” national identity, given even less time to divorce itself from imperialism.

between MANCHUKUO 1987 and my current Austrian writing it seems im slowly developing an alt history setting where the central powers win and everyone wants to be German but all the focus is on stupid loser countries that aren't Germany. Its a subversion of every paradox mod

@nise_yoshimi Orwell famously noted that “every nationalist is haunted by the belief that the past can be altered,” but did he consider that alternative history is also the domain of some who is really very bored and has too many ideas and she has perhaps played too many paradox games

my vice as a writer is my attraction to alternate history, one of the pulpiest and silliest premises in fiction, which I keep returning to no matter how ambitious and long-winded my prose gets. But it keeps me entertained to write it, so

So perhaps that was more coerced or less thorough.

This choice was met with dismay among the rest of the Jewish world, but my (admittedly limited) understanding is that it’s endured in these ex-Soviet communities past the collapse of the USSR. I also believe it happened with Soviet Muslims, although I don’t know the details.

In the early days of the Soviet Union, Jews broadly agreed that they would modify the kosher they kept substantially. There were elements of coercion, but it was primarily a voluntary action decided upon by Jewish leaders. It would have been impossible to impose, in any case.

The collective guilt from the left for not taking the threat of Trump's reelection seriously vs. the collective guilt of Biden-Trump voters for thinking "it's only four years, migrants tho" are both manifesting themselves in interesting ways.

To be honest, I’ve always been surprised that Germany and (especially) Japan were those societies, honestly I’d think that Iraq would be easier than those two. Arab spring North Africa being more viable than Iraq also makes sense to me.

@KarnesMellagio Yeah, personally I would attribute that in part to the fact that they win in the broader argument and get Israel in the holy land sort of by accident, and so they’re not politically empowered initially but they’re very vindicated. Also obvious material factors.
