@BethRigby @HarrietHarman @RuthDavidsonPC Just how does one put your main rival, who by the way isn’t a sitting MP and would have to contest a by election in the safest seat in Britain to even sit at the table. In cabinet. Never happening, The dictator will block him at the NEC stage

@BethRigby @HarrietHarman @RuthDavidsonPC Yes thats a good idea but we are talking about a PM who has a poor lack of political judgemental instead being advised by woke civil servants, the issues are cost of living, policing, immigration, health, schools. PM not up to it, but would have been good Foreign Sec.

@LBC @AndrewMarr9 They do the Kings Speech, then its going to rip open again. The fact is if Starmer does not give a time frame of departure the next elections will be a total bloodbath. This is an existential issue for Labour. Its end of days...

Let’s be honest here now. There is an internal Labour civil war between the hard left and the centre left. This is keeping Starmer here for now, nothing else.

@KayBurley Very fair, but when I see these types who have made it in a non political public position, i.e. CPS to end ip knighted and then go political it leads to so many questions about that very organisation. Its over because Starmer is NOT a politiciam.

I have never been a fan of Keir Starmer as Prime Minister. Top politicians need to realise it’s not just the message, but how you sell it that cuts through to the public psyche. His policies may well have been among the best for the country and some undoubtedly were but Sir Keir never seemed able to land them with the public. Voters rarely reward policies they don’t emotionally connect with. Yesterday’s reset speech didn’t help. What exactly was he trying to tell us. Now, in what could be the death throes of his tenancy in No 10 after less than two years at the top, I do find myself feeling for him. He pulled himself up by his bootstraps and reached not one but two of the highest offices in the land. So, as the wannabes circle the Cabinet table this morning, positioning for what may come next, spare a thought for a man who genuinely wanted to make a difference, but never quite mastered the art of making his case. Fair?

@GuidoFawkes This is Starmer in a nutshell. I have heard so many MPs say he is not accessible. Is this not a classic example? Its not ideal with a Kings Speech and what is going on in the World, but there comes a time and its just a matter of when not if!

Starmer told Cabinet not to discuss leadership at the meeting but to come speak to him privately. He then ran away after Cabinet and no one could go to speak to him. Wes Streeting spent numerous minutes trying to talk to Starmer but was turned away, according to POLITICO.

@GuidoFawkes I looked at a tweet and it said disruption and delays expected until the end of the day. I thought it was about the London railways and bus network, until I realized it was about the Labour government!

Starmer now supported by Cabinet ministers who know they'll be sacked when he goes. This isn't about backing Starmer... it's about the pathetic self-preservation of political minnows who like their chauffeur driven cars.

@lewis_goodall Our politics are probably not too aligned but in general I accept Starmer is finished, but we have a Kings Speech to deliver so its not entirely straight forward, which is why if Starmer had any understanding of politics he would say he will go in September.

The Tory years often saw highly unusual political situations where a PM’s authority was in doubt. This week is something new besides. A govt putting forward a King’s Speech, with a legislative agenda, with nearly a quarter of the governing party in open revolt. Meanwhile members of the cabinet plot to remove the PM. And tomorrow all of Westminster, from the King down, have to put on their most absurd costumes, engage in their best flummery, and pretend that none of it is happening.

I understand Starmer did not give his critics any chance to speak against him in this morning's meeting. He delivered a pre-prepared statement informing them he would not leave office, then moved the meeting on to discuss the war in Iran.

Starmer ally Baroness Jenny Chapman stops outside Cabinet to tell BBC News that the Cabinet was united, and the country needs stability. Asked by our Anita Mcveigh if Health Sec Wes Streeting conveyed any concern in Cabinet about PMs leadership: “There was a recognition that political instability can lead to a rise in inflation, and that was discussed, but overwhelmingly there was a focus on the issues, and that goes for the Health Secretary”… Business Sec Peter Kyle says nothing has been triggered.
