@CHAIRRDRF Common in rural Canada to have to outsprint dogs though not really possible if you are heading up hill. I was bitten on the ankle riding my brompton on a towpath once. Out of control dogs should be taken far more seriously than is the case.

For me a big objection was that I couldn't see myself putting it into practice!
Normal method employed over decades of cycling on country lanes was to ride like crazy (I was faster then!) and get away from it.

IME out of control dogs in places, even roads, shared by cyclists is an increasing problem. A family member suffered significant injury in this way - just received 5 fig compensation from dog owner. That should be some kind of lesson. Yours a responsible dog lover and owner.

FYI - this guy is a total asshole. Please let him know if you see him. He was walking 2 dogs on Kelvin path and one ran at my 9 year old on her bike and knocked her off. He didn't care then screamed fuck you at her when I asked if he could please control his dogs.

@WindsorGtPark This is a road - see r 56 Highway Code - "Keep [dog] on a short lead when walking on the pavement, road or path shared with cyclists." Increasing problem with dogs not being brought under control in Great Park even when cyclists obviously approaching.
