So the PGA ran a survey asking tour players if pace of play is an issue; 100% said yes. They then asked if they considered themselves part of the problem; 100% said no. Would be interesting to run the same survey in poker...

@cardplayerlife “Seem to mean nothing at all” and actually “mean nothing at all” are not the same. Nobody likes losing money, but it’s all relative. Accepting losses as part of the game is a required skill if you want to become a professional poker player.

"Hot" take: I think part of what has "dulled" what's commonly referred to as "the poker dream" for recreationals is the candor and flippancy with which the high roller contingent publicly treats these kinds of tournaments. Somehow, to all these people we see on camera and on X, $10k $25k and multiple bullets thereof seem to mean nothing at all. We know staking happens. We know Bitcoin is a thing. And yet the overwhelming majority of poker lovers/fans/players (99.99999%) can't begin to imagine what it's like to essentially not care about $10k (much less $25k) less than if a quarter fell out of one's pocket. To regular, plain old folks like me, there's some sort of pain (or at least emotion) we feel to even losing a few hundred. 🤷‍♂️

Not gonna lie it’s pretty brutal to watch people bust over and over in this Bahamas super main 26k. Just saw a guy bust bullet 14. Others I’ve seen over and over again. $26,000 is a lot of money. We all knew it’d be like this but damn….maybe I’m just getting old 😆

@padspoker Where do you think all that money comes from? Back in the day the average buy-in was a fraction of now. Having 10k in buy-ins on a Sunday used to be tough. Today people fire 100–200k on the reg. Re-entries and increased rake changed everything. This promo is basically rake back.

People talk about poker being in decline, but let’s not get this wrong. This is the glory years. Sure FTP used to give people who FTd the main millions, but the average Joe can make a twitter account and get $30k Bahamas packages a lot easier than grinding it up “back in the day” People will look back at how much value sites are giving rn and be like “wow”. When that all dries up, we will be in a decline. There’s infinite value being given in every direction rn and games get bigger every year. Don’t let one bad documentary create a false narrative. We’re more than good.

The industry is due for a paradigm shift in tourney start times. Starting a tourney at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and playing really late is rough. Almost no one likes it, pros and recs alike. Let's start tourneys at 10am. Finish at a reasonable time. If you bust early you can still have the evening free.

@thesamparr Buying only makes financial sense if you can lock in a good rate and keep the down payment small. The real mistake is overpaying the mortgage instead of letting that capital compound in the S&P 500.

A hill I will die on: Buying a a home is almost always not a great financial investment. yes, even taking into account leverage. looking at averages, investing in SP500 is more profitable (on average). and also, that's ok! buy because its a great emotional ivnestment.

The process of getting good at anything follows the same principles: Study the theory, put in the reps, pay attention to what works and what doesn’t, adjust, and go again. It’s not unique to poker. Just more obvious there.

What is this new trend of flying with the window shades down on DAYTIME flights? You’ve got sweeping views of the most intricate planet known to man and you’d rather sit in a dimly LED-lit tube?! No wonder people are depressed & dysregulated.

@padspoker I never get why people act like you ask to see their personal bank account when you're trying to figure out how much they play.

This summer deep in the $777 a guy went all in for 1000+ starting stacks, but his hands were over his chips. The dealer confirmed the amount, the guy confirmed. I called and he had 25% extra hidden behind his stack and slid them out after he won the all in. I was very angry, but more at myself to allow myself to get angled like that. I didn’t want it to happen again in a big spot. I asked the player here (who had his chips originally in stacks of 35!) how much he had and a third player told him he didn’t have to tell me. Ironically 2 orbits later on this FT he went all in for 800k, I called and 2 hands later we realised it was 875k because of how his chips were stacked. This FT specifically I couldn’t see one players stack for 95% of the FT. Mine was super clear for anybody to see and my hands didn’t cover it. I had to leave the room 10x to look at the main screen to get accurate counts.

Not that I'll ever reach Scottie's level of greatness in poker, but having experienced what it's like to win the biggest tournament out there, I definitely resonate with what he's saying. That moment of joy from winning doesn't last very long. Win or lose, it's important to ask yourself what it is that's making you come back for more.

"I love being able to play this game for a living. It's one of the greatest joys of my life, but does it fill the deepest wants and desires of my heart? Absolutely not." All-time five minutes here from Scottie. Must watch stuff.

@RealKidPoker Competitors publicly bashing @ClubWPTGold genuinely has the opposite effect. The WPT brand has never had more player support. Just take the L and move on.
