As a first-gen college student growing up in poverty, I never believed that one day I would teach an intensive 10-day "politics of poverty" course to 22 incoming MSU students in Washington DC. Dreams fulfilled when identity intersects passion. @MSU_SocSci @MSU_poli_sci @MSUCAMP

We studied the reality of poverty in the US and abroad, anti-poverty policies, and how past/present systems perpetuate scarcity, especially for marginalized groups. We examined shifting attitudes towards the poor and diff in representation between the haves and have-nots.

The students were incredible! We met with awesome MSU alums and folks on Capitol Hill, USAID, the Economic Development Admin, Housing & Urban Develop., Brookings, & Corus Intl. I was especially glad 9 students from MSU's College Assistance Migrant Program participated.

@CharlesMatzke Thank you, Chuck, for your leadership of MGSP for so many years! Your vision and hard work have helped produce hundreds of alums working in and around the public sphere pursuing evidence-based solutions with civility to address critical policy problems.
