It's an oppressively humid day for Ship Visits - but I'm looking forward to speaking with #MaritimeProfessionals onboard DFDS vessels today and tomorrow working their new Channel Island routes after a successful week in Netherlands with @nautilusint

So 37 years after starting my cadetship the isle of man flag has decided that I need to do a PSSR and an Initial First Aid course, even though they weren't invented back then and everyone else gives grandfather rights Now tell me this isn't a money making scam!

Remember: If unions didn’t matter, powerful corporations wouldn’t spend millions of dollars every year to stop them from forming. Keep up the fight.

Without John Prescott, it's highly unlikely I'd have ever had a career at sea. There are thousands more like me who would have missed the training that his direct intervention supported.
Nautilus International@nautilusint

John Prescott – a one-of-a-kind seafarer, trade unionist and politician Today, we pay tribute to former merchant mariner, MP for Hull, deputy prime minister, and honorary Nautilus member John Prescott. A proud trade unionist, John was a tireless advocate for the UK shipping industry and the welfare of British seafarers and played a key role in advocating for jobs and training for maritime professionals. Nautilus general secretary Mark Dickinson said: ‘I had the privilege to work with John in the 1990s as he led the shadow transport team. Together with Joan Walley MP, the shadow shipping minister, we developed ‘Full Steam Ahead’, the Labour Party’s shipping policy, which went on to heavily influence the shape of government policy when Labour won a landslide in 1997. ‘John was a brilliant strategist, a force of nature, and so passionate about rejuvenating the UK shipping industry and jobs and training for UK seafarers. Without him we would not have had the Tonnage Tax or SMarT funding. We owe him our immense gratitude, and the Council of the Union awarded him Honorary Membership in 2001. He was a one-of-a-kind politician, who will be sadly missed.’ Our thoughts today are with his family and loved ones, especially his wife Pauline.

It was great speaking with @LouHaigh in Dover this morning onboard @dfds_ukire Dover Seaways. This government is set to make much needed improvements to workers rights and whilst we might not get all we want, @nautilusint will continue doing everything we can to get what we need.

Some pictures from the @nautilusint picket/demo at Portland. We'll be doing this again tomorrow and Sunday. More action likely in the future too until the government offers #FairPayRFA.
