The thing about Keon Coleman, and young Black athletes like him, is that the media keeps trying to measure his intellect with a ruler that was never built for him. They compare his curiosity and learning curve to a model of “white intellectualism,”

When these teams stop finding value in what these boys can do with their bodies, they start pretending something is wrong with their minds. Shits gotta stop.

They are measured before they are taught. What looks like confusion is often translation. What looks like ignorance is often unfamiliarity. The deficit is not in the Black boys. It is in the lens.
