The painful thing about the American West is that while it is the most beautiful, the communities are less rooted than the East. The population feels transient, there are less intergenerational/extended family networks. It attracts the drifters, the explorers, the unmoored.

🇲🇽 Mexican Opposition Asks U.S. to Label Ruling Party a Terrorist Organization Alejandro Moreno, head of Mexico’s opposition PRI, has formally petitioned the U.S. State Department, Justice Department, and Treasury to designate the ruling National Regeneration Movement (known as the Morena party, not to be confused with the Moreno, the PRI leader) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, claiming alleged ties to drug cartels. No evidence was provided, Anadolu reported. Morena’s new party president, Ariadna Montiel, rejected the move as “foreign intervention,” and no U.S. agency has announced any action in response. The petition comes amid a U.S. indictment of Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and nine others, including a sitting senator, on narcotrafficking charges, which itself followed news of CIA operatives conducting intelligence activities inside Mexico without authorization from the Sheinbaum government. In August 2025, Moreno filed a separate criminal complaint with Mexico’s Attorney General, alleging ties between Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Morena politicians.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ The National Regeneration Movement controls the presidency, both chambers of Congress, and 24 of Mexico’s 31 states.
