This interpretation of the language in my Committee's version of B24-66 was first brought to my attention yesterday shortly before the Committee markup. Of course the Committee does not intend to narrow the the area in which DDOT can conduct Action Plans or install school-focused

The marked up bill expands school zones, which is an important provision from the original bill. But the mark up shrinks the area around each school where engineers will evaluate for traffic safety improvements about four times smaller — from a quarter mile down to just 350 feet.

At the hearing, I intend to follow up on a number of items, including why the Executive has paused efforts to enforce against fake tags, timing for DPW's new license plate readers, ticket reciprocity with MD/VA, & our work to enforce against boot-eligible vehicles.

Due to agency scheduling conflicts, I've rescheduled my Committee's hearing on traffic safety in the District (and B24-949, the Booting and Impoundment Reform Amendment Act of 2022) to October 5th. See attached for the updated hearing notice.

Yesterday, I, along with several members, introduced three critical bills on solitary confinement, our local solar carveout, and traffic safety via enhanced booting enforcement. I look forward to working with my colleagues to move these bills forward this session.

This fall, DC students deserve to return to safe, supportive learning environments. Today I'm introducing the Back-to-School Safely Emergency Act with @ChmnMendelson so we can regularly track progress on key issues like HVAC units, safety systems, and pediatric immunizations.
