Glasgow City Council claims they don’t have any casual supply staff, yet hundreds of teachers are fighting over 6-hour contracts through Teacher Booker. Their FOI response also states that providing info on contracts offered over the last 3 years would cost over £600—an outrageous excuse for withholding transparency. Here are the facts they did share: •Permanent teaching staff dropped by 3%, from 3,705 in 2022 to 3,596 in 2023. •Fixed-term contracts jumped by 27.5%, from 877 to 1,118. EIS talking about lack of teacher numbers. When in primary a key reason for leaving is the inability to secure even a temporary position for a year and the insecurity of supply work. Never mind trying to find a permanent post.
