Rewriting the ending for my Anastasia-inspired fantasy (again) and it's SO good, guys. I figured out what was bothering me about it and now I can't stop typing. THIS is what I needed to get out of my writing slump. Oh man, I can't wait until this is ready to go out in the world.

I've long entertained a Swan Princess re-imagining with a more active princess and a redemption arc for a more flawed prince, but last night that concept combined with a modern academia setting, and, guys, I'm plot bunny swooning. 😍

@springnpaul Yes, perhaps just being more positive... but I feel like I need separate hidden reviews just for me so I can remember my actual thoughts. I often look up books not realizing I already read them, and I'd like to be more honest about what I thought.

@MaryLoveWriter I almost never give less than 5 stars, and if I can't rave about it, I try to find one or two strong points of the writing to highlight 🤷‍♀️ I remind myself it's not a beta-read. They aren't going to fix anything off my comments *I often include trigger warnings in my review

Writers, authors, how do you review books? Since becoming serious about writing, I only use star ratings, but with them I often forget my thoughts on the book. I prefer my old written up reviews, but don't want to offend potential future writing friends with a "critique".

@TheImprovisor You know that sand castle we built--with the bottle cap turrets and the octopus in the front? It won't last. The wind will blow, children will play, dogs will pee, and tides will rise. But the trill of your laugh, sparkle of your eye, and lull of the waves warm my heart forever.

Tomorrow is surgery day. I'm really scared & not ok about it. Wonder if you'd all share something happy/funny? A joke, poem, piece of writing, photo. Doesn't matter what, so I can have a thread of fun tomorrow night when I'm alone after surgery? I won't look at it until then!

@abby_lecleir @lagunabayfables I was going to say this exact thing! Writing (likely) releases endorphins, and that comes with effort.

@lagunabayfables I relate it to the gym lol. Sometimes the session is fire and other times it’s an absolute slog. But I always feel good after getting some words down.
