@takunick Agree fully. I also think scale of production is another factor. You can’t compete with someone who delivers 15T trucks weekly.

@Masethekid 3-5c year round bhoo. Keeping cost low is becoming harder coz input prices keep increasing possibly due to their higher demand. Over a 5 year period production costs have increased by 7c but selling price has reduced or stayed constant

Cabbage is one of the trickiest crops. In all my years I have only made real money from cabbage twice ( both times had serious shortage). I find it a good crop to keep money moving and for rotation.

Farmers, another drought is here. Dams are almost empty. For some of us who grew maize, here is what you stand to gain: price $285/t, yield 5/ha, cost $1400/ha. From 400 ha you have total revenue $570,000, total cost $560,000. From all that, you keep only $10,000 as profit.

Farming isn’t a get rich quick profession neither is it a kiya kiya hustle. Farming is full time hands on. You can have Chivayo type money and still fail dismally. On average it’ll take you at least 5 years before you truly become profitable and the project can sustain itself.

Now from those 35k good head let’s remove another 7k damaged during harvesting and transportation. Which will further reduce their marketability.
Now you have 28k heads. From that if you sell ALL of them you’ll break even. Otherwise this is a wet dream.

50k heads of cabbages if planted on a hectare would result in baby cabbages. You’re most likely going to get 8-10c a head because of their size, Mbare will sell these for $1 for 5. From the 50k head planted you’ll probably -if your nutrition regime was good- have 35k good heads
