1. Almost 4 years ago I had the incredible good fortune to find Upright Forget-me-not, Myosotis stricta. The first UK record for over 100 years. A note detailing the rediscovery has just been published in the very excellent @BSBIbotany News. #Botany #wildflowers #Ecology

Lots of Bee Orchid rosettes at @ntsandscalehaws , #Cumbria so could be a good year for them. I love the ecology of this species in the northern parts of its range. Flowers mimic bees but then reproduce by self-pollination. #WildflowerHour With @MaskellLindsay

8. As an alternative there is huge potential to restore habitats across the Roanhead site to help save species and to protect & buffer the designated areas. This could also provide sustainable income for the owners. @WandFCouncil #SaveRoanhead @saveroanhead

7. So over to you @WandFCouncil . We are in a #NatureEmergency & a #ClimateEmergency . We have no chance of dealing with either if we don't actually protect our "protected" sites and species from damaging developments.

1. I spent my evening's this week putting together my response to a planning application for a vast holiday park on the Duddon Estuary, #Cumbria. The proposal is an existential threat to the designated and protected species and habitats of the #SPA, #SAC, #SSSI, #NNR and #Ramsar.

Following on from last week's proliferous Jointed Rush, I came across this crazy growth form of the closely related Sharp-flowered Rush, J. acutiflorus near High Dam, #Cumbria . I've been reliably informed that this example is caused by a plant louse Livia junci. #wildflowerhour

Something a bit different for the #wildflowerhour #SeedHeads challenge. Jointed Rush exhibiting prolifery - new plantlets emerging from the tepals instead of a fruit. First time I've noticed it in this species. Aren't #plants brilliant? Kylesbeg, near Kinlochmoidart.

Sedge Heaven with the @BSBIbotany #Cumbria group for #wildflowerhour at Eycott Hill. An example where the common name is confusing at best. Lesser Tussock-sedge, Carex diandra. It grows from rhizomes and doesn't form tussocks. Found on wet, peaty soils - range of pH (Vu - Eng).

16. Our protected wildlife sites & nature reserves are the final refuges for so many species on our ultra-tamed #wildisles. We need a real nature recovery strategy that seeks to expand and buffer these sites. Instead time & energy has to be spent fighting proposals such as this.
