The scene with the final speech at Camp Ichigaya is so perfectly shot. When the camera is on Mishima? He looks radiant, just like the theatrics in his works. When the camera shows Mishima in relation to his surroundings? He looks out of place, anachronistic, ridiculous

There’s a line in this movie where Mishima turns to a government minister and says “I know everyone thinks I’m ridiculous, I go on stage to make them cry and instead they laugh”. That there was so much chuckling in the theater at so many pivotal moments here feels apropos
