Does anyone who is not an artist has experience in trying to explain your ideas to an artist and how to properly commission a ref sheet of a character that doesn't yet exist?

I don't know if anyone who will read this will be able to help but it doesn't hurt to try: Since I'm finally on a stable enough job, I can finally safely think about spending money on commissions every once in a while and so I'd like to finally have a fursona.
