@henrywinter He’s more of a goal threat too, look at the huge goals he’s scored for UTD to win them games. And takes the best pen I’ve ever seen

Harry Maguire has to be ahead of Trevoh Chalobah in the England central-defensive pecking order. It’s not even a serious debate. Chalobah, 26, has only 90 mins’ international experience, the friendly loss to Senegal. Maguire is 33 but is in form and brings all the experience of 64 caps, including at two World Cups. He brings leadership, distribution, importance at corners and penalty-taking.
Chalobah also needs to regain fitness and get back in the Chelsea side. Maguire also has to be ahead of Dan Burn, a Thomas Tuchel favourite but not always the most confident against swift, elite-level attackers. Maguire himself can be caught out but currently showing his abilities, including anticipation of danger, after being restored to Manchester United’s defence by Michael Carrick.
If Marc Guehi and Ezri Konsa are England’s first-choice pairing (depending on John Stones’ problematic fitness issues), then Maguire makes a reliable first change from the bench (especially with pace alongside). He also brings leadership off the pitch and an important sounding board for management, FA staff and younger players. #ENG

@CraigHope_DM I liked the appointment of Tuchel at first, now I’m beginning to question it a lot. Maguire is arguably a starter not just a maybe for the squad. Strange few months ahead

@EnglandOnOurWay Mad that we've won the same amount as England in our lifetimes.
Enjoy losing another final or semi final in July

@EnglandOnOurWay It wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t see Bellingham. He’s been out injured for a month. But the media will surely spin it into a big issue

Are we expecting any shocks?

As I said on the latest pod, there needs to be some action, over on the ESTC Facebook page, there is talk of a mass walk out to make our own FA see we're not happy with #FIFAWorldCup2026 ticket prices.

English

My ticket for the Nations League final was literally only €150 and it was a Category 1 seat right next to the pitch.
For €150 at the World Cup I might get a parking ticket… this is ridiculous.

Freddy🇩🇪@FreddyLA7
Filling out my World Cup ticket application right now and the cheapest category is $265???!!! I genuinely thought it would be like $100 or something. At the Euros last year you could get tickets for €30. How are normal people meant to afford this?
English

@henrywinter All they have to do Henry is adopt the model UEFA have when it comes to allocation and ticket prices. I think if we had something along those lines we would be a very happy bunch
English

Judging by last night’s triumphalist “5m ticket requests” statement, FIFA doesn’t sound in the mood for any immediate re-think on the excessive ticket prices for the World Cup. Nor is the FA likely to stand up to FIFA. But all parties - administrators, organisers, national associations - have to work more closely with fans’ groups to avoid a repeat in the future. And listen to them. Just because this World Cup is (predominantly) in the US doesn’t mean FIFA should always embrace the Wild West ethos.
It will doubtless be a great World Cup - so many good teams and players, fascinating countries and eye-catching venues, drama aplenty and with the greatest prize in sport at stake - but it will also be tarnished by the creed of greed that defines the ticketing policy.
This ticketing fiasco - real and PR - could have been avoided with better consultation with fans, with more judicious thinking and by Gianni Infantino remembering that the game without fans is nothing. So treat them with respect.
So here’s a suggestion which I’ve run by some England fans. If FIFA cared more about supporters and atmosphere it would commit to a fairer, larger and non-changeable official ticket allocation per team in the future. Embedded in its statutes, stipulated in bid documents. Non-changeable.
Imagine if Fifa committed in the future to, say, 15% of capacity for each participating team. If this criteria had been in place for 2026 … that would have been a fairer 10,500 for England and Croatia each in 70,000-capacity Dallas. At a fair, non-changeable price agreed with associations of, say, between £60-£80 group stage.
21,000 real fans, members of their national associations’ supporters’ clubs, would generate the atmosphere that television wants and pays for. Fans would be more inclined to spend on merch if not feeling ripped off on tickets. It would give fans more incentive to attend qualifying games home or away at a time when qualifying loses some of its edge with so many teams getting through to expanded competitions.
It would also reduce accusations of greed being launched at FIFA, a “not-for-profit organisation”. Football deserves better. #FIFAWorldCup

Please uncap the pre-tournament friendlies @FA. Do something for the fans and don't punish us further. We are being rinsed for the love of our country. RTs very welcome.

@DavidVujanic But as England Fans we have to pay for all the tickets up front so say over £5k so if they go down we don’t benefit

@JustMattWatts @Lawton_Times You have to pay for tickets upfront through so you’re not getting a refund until August
