Since COVID, licenses in Northampton Cty went from $150k-$350k. Grocery/conv. chains have bought all available licenses, and the PLCB has held one license auction since the state shutdown its offices in 2020. There is no reason for stopping the auctions when they make PA millions
Ryan W Briggs@rw_briggs

PA & NJ managed to turn liquor licenses into an investment vehicle by refusing to print new licenses They cost $200k-$500k now because of increasing demand Long story short: Basically only rich people and investors can afford to open bars in Philly now phillymag.com/foobooz/2023/0…

@BreweriesinPA Many times the lease obligations of the selling party and existing infrastructure at the locations make selling assets and starting a new business make the most sense so they don’t get defaulted by landlords and get some money out of it.

@BreweriesinPA Succession is taking over an existing business. When someone wants to retire/close it’s either: sell the business to someone that will continue operating it, sell the assets to a new business (popular right now due to equipment delays), or just close and sell what you can.

We've always believed craft beer has a succession problem. Meaning when the owners are ready to move on who takes over? With the news of two breweries closing in Pittsburgh and new breweries taking over, it's good to see some succession happening

@peter_schweyer But you said he doesn’t care about them. That’s a strong exaggeration and an insult to any coach that puts their time and energy into helping develop the younger generations.

@MattBAndersen Agreed that educators and HS coaches aren’t paid enough, which is why it’s a sacrifice to coach. Politics aside, I appreciate anyone willing to do it. But he refused to wear a piece of cloth during a pandemic, thus prioritizing his feelings over the kids. Zero sympathy.

The PLCB has not had a liquor license auction since June 2020, which should have had no impact from COVID. The license stock in the state was already depleted from big grocery and convenience stores gobbling them up, and it’s even worse now. @SenLisaBoscola @SenatorBrowne

@PA_Alcohol_Law I think there’s definitely a few people that could use a realistic look at the license market. Just did a deal around $325k in Lancaster County.

Looks like restaurant license prices are heading back up in Lancaster County. Closer to 300k earlier this year.
