Will you do the right thing when nobody's watching and there's no penalty for cutting corners? That question sits at the heart of everything I find interesting about creativity, technology, and business. mattcasmith.net/2026/05/31/car…

Microsoft emailed me about generative AI for advertisers, and they claim Bing Copilot clickthrough rates are 1.8x higher than normal searches.

A proper Saturday – a long walk in nature followed by a long afternoon at the pub.

@amwilson_opera Better than the junctions that have traffic lights and crossing markings, but no pedestrian indicator at all.

Does anyone know what the rationale is for bizarre pedestrian crossings like this? There used to be a normal crossing here, where you looked across and saw the red/green man. Now, nothing there: you have to look backwards over your shoulder. They have them in Oxford too.

Choosing not to envy the greater numbers they’re undoubtedly doing, and instead take this as a sign that I’m on the right track and am successfully training my eye for picking up on these trends.

Seeing a pattern of big sites and bloggers writing articles in recent weeks that cover similar ground to my own posts from a few months ago (not suggesting foul play – the trends are there and there’s little chance they saw my pieces).

The Verge now has an entire section on its homepage dedicated to "feeling the squeeze", all about the rising cost of AI.

Also wasn’t expecting to have to ask the guy sitting next to me in the cinema to stop playing TikTok videos out loud halfway through the film, but I guess that’s par for the course in 2026.

Wasn’t expecting The Devil Wears Prada 2 to go so hard on the “management consultants and AI versus artistry and craft” angle. A real barometer for public sentiment at the moment.

Somehow in the delirium of the heatwave I've managed to finish the first draft of a piece I've been working on for months that captures so much of my personal philosophy that I've never been able to fully articulate. Coming next Sunday, once I've applied the finishing touches.

This morning I vibe coded a Firefox extension in less than the time it took me to realise there was already an identical feature built in. That’s how fast things are moving these days.

Google's new AI search interface could completely break the information economy behind the internet. Here's why. 🧵[1/7]

@SurajBhanot When I was looking, I viewed two flats in the same relatively new block and spotted a third listed. Chatting to one of the owners, I realised they were all selling because the block was built three years ago and management was increasing the service charge by hundreds per month.

Cloudflare CEO: Business roles can be categorised as "builders, sellers, and measurers". AI will be a catalyst for builders. Sellers need to manage human customer relationships. Measurers are most at risk of AI replacement.

I'm a big believer in the importance of training – not just to learn new things, but for enforced time away from firefighting to review best practice from a distance. I've come away from my course this week with a long list of things I want to get moving come Tuesday.
