Like @davidbessis and others, I think that Hinton is wrong. To explain why, let me tell you a brief story. About a decade ago, in 2017, I developed an automated theorem-proving framework that was ultimately integrated into Mathematica (see: youtube.com/watch?v=mMaid2…) (1/15)

Geoffrey Hinton says mathematics is a closed system, so AIs can play it like a game. They can pose problems to themselves, test proofs, and learn from what works, without relying on human examples. “I think AI will get much better at mathematics than people, maybe in the next 10 years or so.”

daniel is hosting METTA MAY soon!
something useful i've found in my own metta practice is that **even just looking for metta IS practicing metta** metta practice can be "successful" even if the whole sit, we get no clear sense or feeling of metta in the body. the intention to cultivate metta, the openness for it to enter, the feeling around in the dark for it, are all part of the process. metta does eventually have a noticeable somatic component, but i would argue that the seed of metta does not require this - it's simply the intention of goodwill. it's the stance of the heart. and even if i'm meditating and feeling grumpy and judgemental and contracted etc etc -- if the INTENTION is alive to be in a stance of the heart that relates to all beings with goodwill, in some sense, the stance is already there (if perhaps embryonic). of course it's lovely when there's a practice session with a metric fuckton of metta shining like the sun. learning to open to this without grasping is marvelous! but how valuable also is it to find myself in some strange cold wilderness of the psyche, and learn to navigate from there to somewhere with at least a warm hearth. if you'd like support from me and a whole community of practitioners in finding metta, check out the link in my bio for more info on metta may! <3

He's actually using YC's platform to plug GStack now 😭😭
Y Combinator@ycombinator

GStack is an open-source toolkit built by YC President & CEO @garrytan that turns Claude Code into an AI engineering team — with skills for office hours, design, code review, QA, and browser testing. In this video, Garry walks through how GStack works, starting with Office Hours, a skill modeled after real YC partner sessions that pressure-tests your idea before you write a line of code. He demos it live, going from idea through adversarial review, design mockups, and automated QA in a single session.

Everything getting more expensive is what the "humans go the way of the horse" timeline looks like. Starts with the closest bottleneck (RAM), then flows into other things. Eventually agriculture as an energy input.

Ever wonder why these Lean Six Sigma types always say Japanese words like “Gemba” (The real place)? It’s because L6S is literally a Toyota otaku fan club where they larp as Toyota engineers. This is 100% real. Look it up
Aaron Slodov@aphysicist

time for a gemba walk boys. we need to tour these guys around some factories so they can see what roles robots have in production. tbh we should do this with most sf ai ppl who want to do robotics, their heads would explode. should add this to the summit
