Hate to say, but the lightboard overlayed with the text was a bit hard to read. I think it might be the text on not-quite-black contrast. When you presented your PC screen it was far clearer.

It is like temporarily wiping the board clean in class. Only do so if you actually don't want your students looking at the work you've done on the board. Could be frustrating otherwise.

@JoelBSperanza The obvious 'solution' is to get students to write in real time in front of you exam style, but this is not how we write well. My thesis wasn't written under exam conditions, it was an iterative process taking years... maybe should have used AI.

Just tested out an AI essay writer. It's super impressive. Have any teachers out there seen their students using AI to write their essays? Seems like it's going to become an issue very soon.

@EnserMark Yep - I started off thinking cognitivist theories were all that were needed to design great ed videos. I ended up finding that cognitivist theories rarely take into account the classroom context - which is central in teacher practice. Both are important to consider.

Has anyone done a PhD where their findings completely changed their initial thoughts/hypothesis? I keep coming across people doing them who seem to be setting out to find evidence to support their ideology. Is that all academia has to offer us in schools? 🤔

@JoelBSperanza @thinkingmike @mjhenderson Joel is a master teacher. Here is his intro to blended learning for his Maths students. I saw this and thought of 5648. This is elite 'teach them how to watch' stuff.

@JoelBSperanza Agreed - football doesn't have an awful lot of real life application but I (and many of my students) have no problem getting excited over that. It's perfectly fine to just think things are cool. If you get a use out of them later, dandy.

I like this. I don't know why people are so convinced students will only engage with maths if it has real-world applications. The real world is mundane. Instead, why not see maths as just really interesting, challenging & fun, with the added benefit that it's useful sometimes.
