Colin Silbourne, 59, was last seen at around 12noon on Friday 1 May at Mossley Hill Hospital and extensive enquiries are being carried out to find him. Colin is described as 5ft 5in tall of slim build with black dreadlocks. When last seen he was wearing a black jumper with grey trousers, grey boots and a red hat. He usually has a shopping trolley with him and is known to frequent the city centre and the Toxteth and Dingle. Why are there record exclusions in Primary Schools? Because schools have become the frontline of almost every crisis in society, and because of years of austerity in education. Schools are being asked to do more with less while the needs of children are becoming more complex. Managing a class of 31+ pupils without adequate support staff makes it incredibly difficult to respond to rising behavioural, emotional, and learning needs. Where schools once had teaching assistants, pastoral teams, and specialist support, many now face shortages due to cuts. This means early intervention is often not possible, and issues escalate to the point where exclusion becomes a last resort. At the same time, families are under increasing pressure. Many are dealing with insecure work, low wages, and the ongoing impact of the cost-of-living crisis. Support systems that previously helped families such as youth services, children’s centres, and early help provision have been stripped. As a result, children are arriving at school with greater unmet needs, and schools are left to pick up the pieces without the resources to do so. Children are growing up in a very different environment. Many are inhabiting online spaces that amplify conflict and expose them to inappropriate content at a young age. We are in a perfect storm: rising need, shrinking support, and overstretched schools. Record exclusions are not about individuals they are a reflection of a system under strain.
