I have written a book! It's a bunch of fun discussions about the leadoff man, including interviews with big names (Johnny Damon, Joe Mauer, John Smoltz, Mookie Betts, Kyle Schwarber and more), fun stories, best moments and, of course, rankings. amazon.com/dp/B0G5JY3NVG?…

When is it time to have the conversation that Aaron Judge is nothing more than baseball’s Dan Marino? Is he a great player? Absolutely. Is he a winner? Absolutely not! @amagspicks @SiaNejad @MattSnyderCBS

@MattSnyderCBS Teams are already reluctant to allow their players to risk injury before the season. Ain’t no way they’d risk it at the all star break

No, they wouldn't. It takes too long for hitters to ramp up again to face 95+. It also requires SP who participate to make starts that teams would prefer be made for them, not some exhibition. Which teams want to risk a season ending injury to a key player with the stretch run beginning?

@Howard_Cole I think it would be, but there's no way teams would be ok with taking two weeks off midseason

@MattSnyderCBS I don’t know if this is still a nonstarter, but reducing the season to 154 games might have to be on table to make those two weeks workable.

@MattSnyderCBS It took years to get full WBC buy-in from MLB stars despite it being an excuse to miss part of spring training, which most players hate. But MLB players love their week off in July. Very hard to imagine Mark DeRosa is right about this.

@MattSnyderCBS @kyler416 Plus by July I suspect most guys would rather have/are in need of a break than have to gear up for tournament-level play. The rosters also might have to be markedly different. And how does July fit into other countries' league schedules?

@PadreFanDan You really wanna break it up? I like the building of momentum with the event all together

@MattSnyderCBS The correct model is this: 1 week in spring to play the 4 games that determine which 8 teams play in the knock out round. Knock out round takes place during July 4th week. Mon: 2 Qfinals Tue: 2 Qfinals Wed: Semi 1 Thurs: Semi 2 Fri: WBC Sat: Optional ASG

@kyler416 I could see that, but i like having it all together. Feels like we'd lose a bunch of momentum waiting for months

@MattSnyderCBS I wonder if there's a way to get through all of the boring stuff in spring, then just do the quaterfinals and finals during the all-star break. That's where my head has been since this started to become more of a talking point this time around.

The best time for the WBC to be played is in the summer in an alternate universe where the MLB season doesn't exist. But since it does, it can go in March and we can deal with it. Honestly, I don't know why we have to try so hard to make it more than it is.
Bob Nightengale@BNightengale

Mark DeRosa believes every player would volunteer to play in the WBC if it’s moved to the All Star break. ‘They would be more prepared and more dialed in, and we'd be dealing with way less restrictions and way less guidelines on the pitching if it was moved to midseason. No question about it.’

@BearCubs79 @MattSnyderCBS He'll be on the Dodgers by the end of July because there's no chance they extend him and by that time the Dodgers may need another starter anyway to fill in for a injured one
