Manchester United linked coach, Julian Nagelsmann was asked what he thought the most important position in football is and responded: “For me it’s number 6. It depends on your philosophy. These link defence and offence, for a lot of decisions in the game in the offence and defence part, try to close some spaces for the opponent, try to speed up the game, always try to find a good position offensively if you lose the ball in transition so that you can do counter-pressing. If you are a manager or coach who wants to see offensive football, the answer will be number six” Source: youtu.be/qmgs-zEEV3E?si…

@analyzingfutbol Totally fair, and I appreciate the comparison to Leon. Both appear to be physically ready, so it's more about developing technical ability and understanding.

@MattTheMUFCFan I didn't mention anyone not mentioned in the original post thats why he was left out, but I like what I know about him, but like with Leon, I would give it time. Its a huge adjustment. I'd have him in the academy setup first, then maybe a loan unless he's just clearly ready.

I like these kids tbh but I’d say all of them need another year at least. Collyer may even just be one to sell with a buyback and sell on clause. He needs to be settled somewhere and stay injury free imo. Kone, obviously a talent but needs senior experience imo. He has 134 minutes so far though and that’s just not enough. Another loan for a full season would be good or a sell with cheap buyback and big sell on (think Madrid type deals) is probably what I’d do. Jack I don’t see a clear path to minutes right now and think either another year in the 21s or a loan to test himself at senior level would be good. Tyler profile wise closer to what we need than jack right now imo, but needs minutes and more time.
United Update@UnitedUpdates

🚨 Even if Manchester United sign two top midfielders in the summer transfer window—ideally Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali—they will still need a third addition in midfield. However, instead of making another signing, the club is planning to promote a youngster to the first team. Options under consideration include Sekou Kone, Toby Collyer, and Jack or Tyler Fletcher. @Blesing_Andrew I think we'll have to prioritize, and CM, LW, LB, and CF depth would all take precedence over RB, imo. While neither of Dalot or Maz has shown enough to lock down that spot in a side with title ambitions, both are serviceable in the near term.

If we’re being honest, neither Dalot nor Mazraoui should be starting for a Manchester United side with real ambitions. Neither is top-level at right-back. Time to upgrade this summer

Diogo Dalot vs Noussair Mazraoui — Who Should Start at Right-Back for Manchester United? ♦️•Manchester United currently have two very capable right-backs. Both players bring different tactical profiles, which means the choice often depends on the manager’s system and the opponent. Below is a clear football-logic comparison. ⸻ 1. Attacking Contribution Diogo Dalot •Loves overlapping runs and delivering crosses. •Frequently pushes high into the attacking third. •Provides width and energy on the flank. Noussair Mazraoui •More technical in tight spaces. •Comfortable drifting into midfield to help build-up. •Plays combinations rather than constant crossing. Verdict: •Dalot = more direct attacking full-back •Mazraoui = more technical, possession-based full-back ⸻ 2. Defensive Ability Dalot •Physically strong and aggressive in duels. •Can sometimes be caught high up the pitch due to attacking instincts. Mazraoui •Reads the game very well and makes interceptions. •Often recovers the ball in advanced areas, turning defense into attack. Verdict: Mazraoui is usually more tactically disciplined, while Dalot relies more on athletic recovery. ⸻ 3. Tactical Versatility Dalot •Can play right-back or left-back, which has helped United during injury crises. Mazraoui •Extremely versatile: right-back, left-back, wing-back, centre-back in a back three, and even midfield roles. Verdict: Mazraoui clearly offers more positional flexibility. ⸻ 4. Experience & Pedigree Dalot •Developed at Porto and matured at United. •Premier League experience. Mazraoui •Won multiple Eredivisie titles with Ajax and a Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich. •Played key roles in Morocco’s World Cup run and AFCON success. Verdict: Mazraoui edges it in trophy experience and big-game pedigree. ⸻ Final Decision: Who Should Start? My pick: Noussair Mazraoui as the starting right-back. Why: •Superior technical quality. •Better positional intelligence. •More tactical versatility for modern systems. However: •Dalot is the better option when United need pace and overlapping width. •Mazraoui is better for possession-based or tactical systems. ⸻ ✅ Ideal scenario for United: Mazraoui starts most big games, while Dalot rotates depending on form and opponent.

@FPLfrasier Disingenuous is putting it mildly... To make up ground in the table two things have to happen: 1. You have to take as many points as you can 2. Teams ahead of you have to drop them They're not mutually exclusive, BOTH have to happen. Brent knows this. He's just a scumbag.

Absolutely crazy and at the same time incredible how Mark discredits everything good that is happening at the club. Carrick has done wonders compared to Amorim. Defense has been strengthened massively, players playing in their natural position, play style changed drastically, wingbacks not getting a lot of the big chances we create… I can go on about what Carrick has changed. If you think Enrique is available and we should sign him that’s a different conversation. Discrediting Carrick’s job so far is disingenuous.

Like the majority of tournaments this century, Portugal go into World Cup 2026 with their hopes largely pinned on one man. Only it’s a different man. Bruno Fernandes is a football genius. That much became evident for anyone watching one wondrous display after another at Sporting Clube de Portugal. Having rarely missed a game at the José Alvalade stadium in the last 30 years, I can vouch that Bruno is hands-down the best Sporting player to grace the Lisbon club’s pitch during that time. It was why I was convinced he would be a huge success in the best league in the world and was happy to tell UK media outlets why => therepublikofmancunia.com/how-bruno-fern… That said, even I was surprised at how much he has stood out in a league so much wealthier than any other that its clubs can cherry pick the best players in the world. Bruno has been consistently brilliant and brilliantly consistent, despite the ongoing instability of Manchester United. And he is arguably enjoying his best ever season. Portugal have an embarrassment of riches in midfield. PSG pair Vitinha and João Neves are the heartbeat of a team that won everything there was to win last season. Bernardo Silva, like Bruno, is enjoying a fantastic individual campaign in Manchester. But for all of Vitinha’s ability to knit the team together, for all of Neves’ non-stop industry, for all of Bernardo’s football IQ, it is Bruno who is the difference maker. Two more games for Bruno this international break. Two more man-of-the-match performances. Two more superb assists against USA yesterday made it 24 in total in a Portugal shirt for Fernandes. Only Luís Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo have more. His 28 goals for Portugal are only bettered by five players – Ronaldo, Pauleta, Eusébio, Figo and Nuno Gomes. Ronaldo can no longer dominate games like in past. Bruno can. Should Bruno Fernandes maintain his current level, Portuguese fans could be in for something special this summer.

@CharZiyanah I think Lewis Hall is the presumptive best option available, Diouf is an excellent young option with a high ceiling, and the veteran, Raum, is the most cost effective, plug and play option. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Lewis Hall doesn't feel like a realistic deal to make right now, both in cost & a new deal on the horizon, so El Hadji Malick Diouf is my #1 preference for LB this summer. This should be the priority after two CM's. Athletic, physical, bombing up & down on the left side with pace & power, a superb crosser & ball carrier, his ceiling is very exciting if he can iron out a couple of issues defensively. A great alternative to Patrick Dorgu, who may not be a long term LB anyway. If West Ham are relegated, it makes it even more of a no brainer deal to do for Manchester United.

I always told myself that the reason Ole didn’t sign a midfielder was because he was waiting for Rice’s contract situation at West Ham to run down while simultaneously timing the development of James Garner in the academy and loan spells. Just look at the balance between the two
