While concerns around the rise in Canada’s fentanyl use have focused on a rise in deaths and drug-related disorders, new research by Associate Professors Dr Marta-Marika Urbanik (University of Alberta), Dr Katharina Maier (University of Winnipeg), Dr Matthew Valasik (University of Alabama), and Wilfrid Laurier University Assistant Professor Dr Carolyn Greene, has highlighted the issue of drug gangs exploiting vulnerable people’s homes in Thunder Bay, Ontario, driving up homelessness and violence. policinginsight.com/feature/analys… @UAlberta @uwinnipeg @UofAlabama @Laurier @UrbanikMarta @KathMaier @MattValasik

Was glad to chat with director Justin Kurzel about his new film THE ORDER for the folks at the Seattle Met. While not actually shot here, it is a distinctly PNW story of violent white supremacy Kurzel sees as being chillingly relevant to our present moment seattlemet.com/arts-and-cultu…

THE ORDER is a chilling, gripping piece of cinema that steeps readers in a forgotten chapter of the American Far Right. Here’s my look for @WIRED at how Justin Kurzel’s new film unearths a past that directly informs the contemporary Neo-Fascist revival wired.com/story/real-sto…

THE ORDER is terrific. Kurzel going Mann-mode — highline heists, workaholic cops, elemental stare downs with wildlife — dramatizing how dangerously swift white supremacy turns militant. A mite too tropey, but this is elegant, bracing cop cinema. Best Actor to Jude Law’s mustache

There are solid performances from Jurnee Smollett, Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult in The Order. But the movie is otherwise very hollow and has nothing interesting to say - about white supremacy, law enforcement or anything

Disneyland’s “social clubs”—packs of obsessed fans—once roamed the parks in biker-style denim vests. A strict reservation system and rising prices have driven them to bowling and mini golf instead. on.wsj.com/4ijOxYH
