The more we learn about shorebirds the more we can protect them and their habitat. Banding shorebirds is so important for this. Thanks to a Wettenhall Environmental Trust grant, @BirdsByLou and I recently honed our skills with the Qld Wader Study Group, to equip our NSW research.

Removing polychaetes from plant debris makes me wish I'd played that game Operation a bit more so my fine motor skills were more developed! 😂

Phenomenal. Bar-tailed Godwit has broken its own record: a first-year bird (five months old!) has flown 13,560 km—just shy of the direct flight limit of a Boeing 787—from Alaska to Tasmania, seemingly non-stop, in just 11 days (avg. speed: c.51 km/hr).

So many silver gulls flocking at Hexham Swamp today. I've never seen that thriller movie The Birds but I feel like this was gearing up for it. 😂

Final survey at this site... now that inland has dried up a bit, the pied stilts have returned and we also had some equine visitors 😅

We're so excited to reveal that the animals will be taking over the Sydney Harbour Bridge for @vividsydney. ❤️ Our illumination explores Australia’s habitats, from backyards to our most endangered ecosystems. The city will light up from the 26 May - 17 June. #vividsydney

The things you do for science... some of my feather samples were wet so I'm using a hair dryer to better preserve them until I get back to the lab @ConservationUon

Otter-ly gorgeous! 🦦🌱🌊 Have you seen this 3D wetlands scene in #Bristol? It's been commissioned by @WWTworldwide to raise awareness of wetland habitats.

My highlight of today's disturbance survey was the Wompoo Fruit Dove that flew into view as I was leaving. No disrespect to the Eastern Curlews I'm researching but this was an exciting new bird I hadn't thought I'd get to see in the region, though I'd heard it had been around.

The forecast said a 20% chance of rain but it rained during the shorebird disturbance survey anyway. Fortunately, I came prepared!
