this is a catastrophe. StackOverflow provided data to LLMs, LLMs replaced StackOverflow, and now no new Q&A hub exists to provide fresh data. it’s a self-undermining causal loop, like mold growing on food, consuming it, and dying once the food is gone.

RIP Stack Overflow.

> be microplastics researcher 2015
> develop better detection method
> can see particles 10x smaller than before
> run samples
> counts 100x higher than previous estimates
> publish
> conclusion: "more research needed"
> funding expires
> be different researcher 2020
> even better detection
> same samples
> counts higher still
> publish
> grant rejected: "not novel"
> be researcher 2024
> can now detect nanoplastics
> counts astronomical
> particles in brain tissue, testes, placentas
> concentrations increasing decade over decade
> publish
> industry response: "correlation not causation"
> plastic production: up 4%

People in the replies said this would never happen and it took less than a week.

The advertising will be baked into the output, not on sidebars or headers that can be blocked. Using ChatGPT to "write" a novel? Your main character just bought a new 2026 Ford and really loves it. Your story is based in Victorian England? Your main character is musing about how wonderful life will be in the future when they can buy a new 2026 Ford.

@prerat A more intriguing question is:
- Can it capture relationships between Wikipedia content better than its internal links?
Many relationships remain undiscovered. Perhaps mathematical theorems and unknown physics are already there, if we could connect the right elements.

Remember this the next time you hear some right wing dingus complain about money going to research on mushroom enzymes or whatever
