I am shocked by the scenes at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington overnight. Any attack on democratic institutions or on the freedom of the press must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. It is a huge relief that @POTUS, the First Lady and all those attending are safe.

She inherited the biggest fiscal black hole in a generation and found an extra £22 billion of unfunded commitments hidden in the accounts. She has maintained spending on the NHS, raised the minimum wage and kept borrowing costs under control during a global energy crisis. She is the first female Chancellor in British history. Is she getting a fair hearing?

I am appalled by recent attempted antisemitic arson attacks in North London.  This is abhorrent and it will not be tolerated. Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain.  We are increasing visible policing and those responsible will be found and brought to justice. We will not rest in the pursuit of perpetrators.

And while opposition parties have responded by dividing communities, we respond with hope and pride. Pride in our communities, and the hope of a country that’s better for our children. I really like Keir Starmer. He’s a good man with morals & integrity. You can see how much it means to him to do things right & when he makes a mistake, it pains him. Many previous Prime Ministers couldn’t care less, as long as their mistakes were hidden.

I would like to extend my thanks to the police, the security services, and everyone involved in keeping Britain safe. People will be worried after today's arrests, especially those in our Jewish community. Our world-leading security services will not hesitate to protect you. There are some who will use moments like this to divide people. It is vital that we now come together as a nation, united in our common purpose.
