Tonight my daughter (6) asked me to play guitar to help her fall asleep. I was astonished, flattered, and a little nervous. Without thinking, I chose a lullaby I wrote 13 years before she was born… Before I knew about pure joy, and pure sadness. Before I knew about success and deep loss…before I knew about life and death…or even who I was as a person. The notes flowed through my fingertips as if I had written them just hours before. And she drifted off to her own world. And in this moment…I wanted to document it so I can come back to this post one day if I need to. To be reminded in my hardest days or my longest distances away from her. That I’m her Dad…and that’s all that matters.
